Summary: This study confirmed the beneficial effects of Ginkgo biloba leave extract (GbE) in alleviating hypercholesterolemia, inflammation, and atherosclerosis. GbE treatment reshaped the intestinal microbiota, downregulated proinflammatory cytokines, and enhanced the expression of tight junction proteins. It also reversed the dysfunction of microbial metabolic phenotypes and reduced atherosclerotic plaque areas. These findings provide important insights into the pharmacological mechanism underlying the antiatherogenic efficacy of GbE.

Summary: A self-assembled monolayer (SAM) based on Ginkgo biloba exocarp extract (GBEE) was successfully formed on a copper surface, exhibiting efficient inhibition behavior. Characterization of the GBEE SAM using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and contact angle tests confirmed the hydrophobic nature of the SAM. Electrochemical measurements and scanning electron microscopy revealed that the SAM showed excellent anti-corrosion performance with a high inhibition efficiency of 97.86%. Theoretical calculations were also conducted to further understand the adsorption and inhibition mechanism of the GBEE SAM.

Summary: Our study showed that the combination of GBE50 and aspirin could enhance the antiplatelet effects by synergistic and additive effects, with stronger inhibition of platelet aggregation. GBE50 interfered with platelet aggregation through cAMP pathway, AA metabolism and calcium signaling pathway, while aspirin regulated platelet aggregation through AA metabolism and platelet activation. Demonstrating the potential application of GBE50 as a supplementary therapy for thrombosis-related diseases.

The effectiveness and safety of Ginkgo biloba with concurrent interventions also remain unclear. Future research should use rigorous methodology and validated outcome measures.

Summary: In this study, a HPLC-DAD method was developed to separate and determine five major biflavonoids in ginkgo. Tissue-specific profiling revealed that biflavonoids were not detected in plant parts not in direct contact with the environment. Leaves had the highest total biflavonoids content, with sciadopitysin being the predominant compound, while amentoflavone was the predominant biflavonoid in the bark.

Summary: Five new terpenoids, including a polyketide-terpenoid hybrid paraphaone and four eremophilane sesquiterpenoids, were isolated from the endophytic fungus Paraphaeosphaeria sp. cultured with Ginkgo biloba extract. These compounds exhibited significant antifungal and antifeedant activities against various phytopathogens and entomopathogens. The culture of Paraphaeosphaeria sp. using Ginkgo biloba medium could be a potential source of agricultural antibiotics.

The results showed that the combination therapy significantly improved blood lipid parameters, reduced liver fat content, and had additional liver protection. GBE also regulated abnormal lipid metabolism and increased the exposure of statins in plasma, providing important implications for disease progression and statin resistance.

The results show both inter-investigator and intra-investigator variation in scoring, indicating a need for further standardization, but also demonstrate that visual scoring remains a reliable method for analyzing DNA migration in comets.

Summary: This study assessed the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of different-sized and surface-modified amorphous silica nanomaterials on rat alveolar epithelial cells. The results showed that variants with larger surface areas had higher cytotoxic potential, SiO2_40 induced significant DNA damage, and all tested variants increased gamma-H2AX levels. This study supports the use of multiparametric approaches to improve understanding of nanomaterial mechanisms and hazard prediction.

Summary: DNA damage in newborn children's cord blood cells from Mexico City is correlated with the DNA damage in their mothers, as well as the environmental exposure and complications during pregnancy. Mothers living in the southern part of the city have double DNA damage compared to those living in the northern part. This study highlights the importance of antioxidants during pregnancy and the role of the placental barrier in protecting newborns from DNA-damaging effects of pollution.

Summary: This randomized clinical trial conducted by general practitioners evaluated the effects of a multicomponent intervention for preventing falls in elderly individuals at high risk. The intervention group received counseling, risk assessment, physical activity programs, and nutritional counseling, which resulted in fewer falls compared to the control group. However, there was a small reduction in the number of fallers and an unexpected increase in the risk of fractures in the intervention group.
