Plasma levels of free fatty acid differ in patients with left ventricular preserved, mid-range, and reduced ejection fraction

Background: Free fatty acids (FFAs) predicted the risk of heart failure (HF) and were elevated in HF with very low left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) compared to healthy subjects. The aim of this study was to investigate whether total levels of FFA in plasma differed in patients with HF with preserved (HFpEF), mid-range (HFmrEF), and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) and the association with the three categories. Methods: One hundred thirty-nine patients with HFpEF, HFmrEF and HFrEF were investigated in this study. Plasma FFA levels were measured using commercially available assay kits, and LVEF was calculated by echocardiography with the Simpson biplane method. Dyspnea ranked by New York Heart Association (NYHA) was also identified. Results: FFA concentrations were higher in HFrEF than in HFmrEF and HFpEF, respectively (689 +/- 321.5 mu mol/L vs. 537.9 +/- 221.6 mu mol/L, p = 0.036; 689 +/- 321.5 mu mol/L vs. 527.5 +/- 185.5 mu mol/L, p = 0.008). No significant differences in FFA levels were found between HFmrEF and HFpEF (537.9 +/- 221.6 mu mol/L vs. 527.5 +/- 185.5 mu mol/L, p = 0.619). In addition, we found a negative correlation between FFA levels and LVEF (regression coefficient: - 0.229, p = 0.004) and a positive correlation between FFAs and NYHA class (regression coefficient: 0.214, p = 0.014) after adjustment for clinical characteristic, medical history and therapies. ROC analysis revealed that FFAs predicted HFrEF across the three categories (AUC: 0.644, p = 0.005) and the optimal cut-off level to predict HFrEF was FFA levels above 575 mu mol/L. Conclusions: FFA levels differed across the three categories, which suggests that energy metabolism differs between HFpEF, HFmrEF and HFrEF.

Exploring the operational performance discrepancies between online ridesplitting and carpooling transportation modes based on DiDi data

Summary: With the rapid development of internet technologies and shared mobility services, online ridesharing services have become popular worldwide. This study compares the operational performance of two major online ridesharing modes, ridesplitting and carpooling, using actual operating data provided by DiDi Chuxing. The findings indicate that ridesplitting has lower fuel-saving and distance-saving ratios compared to carpooling, and online ridesharing is not considered fuel-saving in terms of transportation system's fuel economy.

Consumer information technology use in the post-pandemic workplace: a post-acceptance adaptation perspective

Summary: This study examines the antecedents (i.e. characteristics of MICT) and outcomes (i.e. employee affective and cognitive well-being) of routine MICT use in the remote work context. The findings show that routine MICT use increases employee affective well-being, such as job satisfaction, and mitigates cognitive well-being issues, such as technology overload. The study also highlights the mediation effects of routine MICT use on the relationship between its characteristics and employee well-being.

Superhydrophobic Pt@SBA-15 catalyst for tritium separation in liquid phase catalytic exchange

Summary: A hydrophobic microscopic reaction environment was constructed through the modification of mesoporous silica, which helped improve the catalytic activity of the LPCE reaction. The Pt@SBA-15-tetramethyldisilazane catalyst, prepared by modifying the SBA-15 carrier and loading metal Pt, exhibited a superhydrophobic structure with a water contact angle of 158 degrees. This structure enhanced the catalytic performance and prevented catalyst deactivation. Experimental results showed that the catalyst had good catalytic activity in tritium water and maintained high activity after 30 days.

T2-weighted MRI and reduced-FOV diffusion-weighted imaging of the human pancreas at 5 T: A comparison study with 3 T

Summary: This study aimed to explore the feasibility of pancreatic imaging at 5 T and evaluate the practical improvement of T2-weighted MRI and diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) at 5 T as compared with 3 T. The results showed that imaging at 5 T provided higher image quality ratings and SNR compared to 3 T for both T2-weighted and DWI images. However, there were no significant differences in the mean ADC values and CV of ADC between 3 T and 5 T measurements.

Dense packing of xenon in an ultra-microporous metal-organic framework for benchmark xenon capture and separation

Summary: In this study, an ultra-microporous alkyl Cu-based MOF-11 was developed for highly selective adsorption of xenon. The unique pore system of MOF-11 not only enables strong binding affinity with xenon, but also allows for dense packing of xenon molecules. MOF-11 demonstrates record-high xenon storage density, uptake, and selectivity, making it a promising candidate for xenon separation and capture.

An observational study of clinical recurrence in patients with interstitial lung disease related to the antisynthetase syndrome

Risk factors and clinical outcomes of incomplete endoscopic resection of small rectal neuroendocrine tumors in southern China: a 9-year data analysis

Further analysis revealed that an atypical hyperemic appearance and treatment in the early period were significant predisposing factors for inappropriate choice of polypectomy.
