Summary: The study examines the effect of the reverse Trendelenburg position on patients undergoing ureteroscopic lithotripsy for proximal ureteral stones. The results indicate that performing the surgery in the reverse Trendelenburg position can significantly reduce stone migration, improve stone-free rates, and reduce operating and hospitalization time.

Summary: Treatment of kidney and ureter multiple calculi is challenging, especially in patients with solitary kidney. This case report describes the successful one-stage clearance of complex stones in a patient with solitary kidney and ureter using a combination of laparoscopy and ureteroscopy cooperative surgery. The conservation of kidney function is crucial in such patients. This study highlights the importance of protecting kidney function in the treatment of anuria lasting for 3 days in calculus patients.

Summary: This study proposes a CAD system for KUB imaging based on a deep learning model to assist emergency room clinicians in accurately diagnosing urolithiasis. By collecting a dataset of KUB images, the model was trained and tested, demonstrating good performance in detecting urolithiasis. The results of this research are expected to help clinicians diagnose urolithiasis accurately and reduce unnecessary radiation exposure and medical costs.

Summary: Ureteral complications are common after renal transplantation and can lead to graft impairment and loss. This study evaluated the safety and efficacy of the self-expanding Allium ureteral stent in patients with ureteral complications. The success rate of the Allium stent was 60%, suggesting it may be an alternative to other treatment options.

Summary: The incidence of ureter obstruction is increasing and recovery from this kidney injury can lead to long-term consequences such as an increased risk for salt-sensitive hypertension. A study using a RUUO model found that mice with unilateral ureteral obstruction had elevated blood pressure and decreased sodium excretion, along with renal tubular injury, inflammation, decreased vascular density, and renal fibrosis. These findings highlight the importance of addressing ureter obstruction and its potential impact on sodium excretion and hypertension.

Summary: In this study, a high-sensitivity thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) was used to measure organ dose and evaluate effective dose in various X-ray examinations for suspected urinary tract stones. The experiment provided detailed organ dose distributions for kidney-ureter-bladder plain radiography (KUB), intravenous urography (IVU), and abdominal computed tomography (CT). The findings contribute to the understanding of abdominal colic pain and hematuria caused by urinary tract stones.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the failure rates of inserting a 10/12-Fr ureteral access sheath during retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) in cases with and without stones and to analyze the risk factors for insertion failure. The results showed that the incidence of insertion failure was higher in cases without stones than in those with stones. These findings provide valuable information for surgeons and patients during informed consent discussions, especially for patients without stones.

Summary: This study found a significant association between autoimmune diseases and hepatobiliary cancers through long-term tracking in the Swedish population. Several autoimmune diseases, particularly autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis, were strongly linked with hepatobiliary cancers. Therefore, it is important to manage autoimmune disease symptoms carefully in each patient and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Summary: By analyzing the 5-year relative survival rates of 23 solid cancers in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden over a 50-year period (1970-2019), we found that certain cancers showed a gradual improvement in survival rates, such as melanoma and breast, endometrial, and thyroid cancers. Additionally, oral, oropharyngeal, testicular, and prostate cancers also exhibited significant increases in survival rates. However, lung, esophageal, liver, and other cancers showed only minimal improvement.

Summary: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell malignancy characterized by the over-propagation of a single clone of plasma cells in the bone marrow. The genetic basis of familial MM, particularly within the non-coding genome, is still not well understood. In this study, whole-genome sequencing data was used to identify and characterize variants in the non-coding genome of MM families. The findings confirmed previously implicated biological pathways in MM development and identified 10 genes involved in mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathways, which are known to be important in MM.

Summary: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most common leukemia among adults worldwide. However, a study found that the GWAS-identified risk variants for CLL do not significantly impact overall survival and disease progression in CLL patients. The polygenic risk scores (PRSs) built with these risk variants also have limited accuracy in predicting patient survival and disease progression.

Summary: By conducting a meta-analysis on the germline genetic data of 234 autophagy-related genes from three independent study populations, we investigated the influence of autophagy-related variants on the risk of Multiple Myeloma (MM) and examined the functional mechanisms behind the observed associations. We identified SNPs within the six CD46, IKBKE, PARK2, ULK4, ATG5, and CDKN2A loci associated with MM risk and found that their effect on disease risk was mediated by specific subsets of immune cells, as well as vitamin D3-, MCP-2-, and IL20-dependent mechanisms.

Summary: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a common and fatal disease, with metastasis occurring most frequently in the liver and peritoneum. Conventional treatments have limited efficacy, necessitating the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. Nanotechnology offers promising nanomaterials for targeted drug delivery and diagnosis in CRC. Combining theranostic approaches with nanomedicine has the potential to revolutionize CRC detection and treatment. This review emphasizes recent studies, potential, and challenges in the development of nanoplatforms for CRC detection and treatment.

The findings showed a significant improvement in lung cancer survival after the year 2000. The highest 5-year survival rate was observed in Norwegian men and women. This study may provide insights for better treatment and interventions for lung cancer patients.

Summary: Liver cancer, including hepatocellular carcinoma, gallbladder cancer, and bile duct cancer, is influenced by various risk factors such as alcohol, viral hepatitis, gallstones, infections, autoimmune diseases, and diabetes. This study demonstrates that the combination of these risk factors can account for at least 50% of the causes of these cancers, highlighting the significance of chronic inflammation as an underlying mechanism. The use of national hospital records in Sweden provides valuable insights into the potential comorbidities associated with hepatobiliary cancers.

Summary: This study modeled survival data from the NORDCAN database and analyzed survival rates of breast cancer patients in Denmark, Finland, Norway, and Sweden from 1971 to 2020. The results showed that Sweden had the highest survival rates, but all countries showed improvements over time and approached the levels of Sweden. The risk of recurrence was higher in the 2-5 year period, which resulted in higher 10/5-year survival rates compared to 5/1-year survival rates. The study suggests that late mortality is a critical factor limiting survival in breast cancer.

Summary: This study analyzed 50 years of data and found that breast cancer had the highest 5-year survival rate, reaching 92.3%, followed by endometrial and cervical cancer at 86.1% and 75.6% respectively. Ovarian cancer showed the largest improvement in 5-year survival over the past 50 years, reaching 52.9% in the end. The overall survival for these female cancers has continuously improved, likely due to advancements in treatment, imaging techniques, and patient care organization.
