Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) ZFAS1 (zinc finger antisense 1) has been suggested to have an oncogenic role in the tumorigenesis of human malignant tumors. However, the expression status and biological function of ZFAS1 in bladder cancer is still unknown. Thus, the purpose of the present study is to explore the clinical value of ZFAS1 in bladder cancer patients, and the biological function of ZFAS1 in bladder cancer cell. In the present study, we found ZFAS1 expression was increased in bladder cancer tissues compared with paired adjacent normal tissues through analyzing the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Furthermore, we confirmed that levels of ZFAS1 expression were elevated in bladder cancer tissues and cell lines compared with normal bladder tissues and normal uroepithelium cell line, respectively. Then, we observed that the expression level of ZFAS1 was positively associated with clinical stag, muscularis invasion, lymph node metastasis, and distant metastasis in bladder cancer patients. The experiments in vitro suggested that knockdown of ZFAS1 repressed bladder cancer cell proliferation via up-regulating KLF2 and NKD2 expression, and inhibited cell migration and invasion via down-regulating ZEB1 and ZEB2 expression. In conclusion, ZFAS1 is overexpressed in bladder cancer, and functions as an oncogenic lncRNA in regulating bladder cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Summary: Treatment with icariin in SHR rats led to increased NO and cGMP levels in penile cavernous tissue, enhanced interaction between eNOS and HSP90 while reducing interaction between eNOS and caveolin-1, thereby improving erectile function.

Summary: The research suggests that low androgen status inhibits erectile function in rats by promoting cavernous fibrosis and decreasing NO synthesis through inducing pyroptosis of smooth muscle cells and endothelial cells in the corpus cavernosum.

tRNA-derived fragments tRFGlnCTG induced by arterial injury promote vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation

Summary: tRFs and tiRNAs are generated from specific cleavage of tRNAs or their precursors, regulating gene expression in stressful cellular conditions. This study showed that tRF(GlnCTG) is overexpressed in injured arteries and negatively regulates FAS gene expression, promoting vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation. Investigating the roles of tRFs/tiRNAs is crucial for understanding intimal hyperplasia mechanisms and potential treatments.

Effect of the icariin on endothelial microparticles, endothelial progenitor cells, platelets, and erectile function in spontaneously hypertensive rats

Summary: The study found that icariin can improve erectile function in spontaneously hypertensive rats by reducing the content of endothelial microparticles in blood and inhibiting platelet activation. Endothelial microparticles, endothelial progenitor cells, and platelet activation-related indicators (mean platelet volume, platelet distribution width, and vitronectin receptor) can be used to evaluate the improvement of erectile function in spontaneously hypertensive rats by icariin.

Effect of low androgen levels on transient receptor potential channels expression in rat penile corpus cavernosum tissue and its relationship with erectile function

Summary: The exact mechanism by which testosterone deficiency causes erectile dysfunction (ED) is still unknown. This study investigates the effect of androgens on TRPCs and their relationship with erectile function. Low androgen levels may inhibit erectile function through up-regulation of TRPC3, TRPC4, and TRPC6 expression in rat penile cavernous tissue. Inhibition of TRPC4 levels in the penile tissue may improve erectile function in low androgen levels.

Summary: The effect of low androgen status on mitochondria-associated membranes (MAMs) and its relationship with erectile function were investigated. Low androgen status upregulated the expressions of PACS-2 in MAMs and inhibited the eNOS/NO/cGMP signaling pathway, resulting in impaired erectile function.

Methylation of eNOS in the rat penile corpus cavernosum under different pathological states and its relationship with erectile function

Na Wang, Qilan Jiang, Libo Xie, Bo Cheng, Qin-Wen Liu, Rui Jiang

Summary: Low androgen levels and type 1 diabetes may cause erectile dysfunction by methylating the promoter region of eNOS. In the rat experiment, castration and hyperglycemia led to increased methylation level in the eNOS promoter region, resulting in decreased nitric oxide level and erectile function. Methylation inhibitors can partially improve erectile function in type 1 diabetic rats.

Downregulation of the expression of galanin impairs erectile function in hypoandrogenic rats

Piao Yuan, Xiong Li, Wen-ju Xiong, Jun Jiang, Rui Jiang

Summary: The relationship between galanin and erectile function under low testosterone levels was investigated in rats. It was found that low testosterone levels decreased the expression of galanin and GalR in the penile tissues, as well as inhibited the eNOS/NO signaling pathway. Upregulating the expression of galanin in the penile corpus cavernosum might be a novel method of treating erectile dysfunction caused by low androgen levels.

Endothelial-derived exosomes induced by lipopolysaccharide alleviate rat cardiomyocytes injury and apoptosis

Yu Cao, Yan Wang, Ling Xiao, Jia-Ying Xu, Ying Liu, Rui Jiang, Tao Li, Jun Jiang

Summary: Exosomes released from endothelial cells exposed to bacterial lipopolysaccharides were found to enhance cell viability and attenuate injury of cardiomyocytes. These exosomes contained increased expression of miRNAs that could promote the survival of cardiomyocytes by down-regulating apoptosis-related proteins. This study suggests that these exosomes have a cardiac protective effect on cardiomyocytes through miRNA regulation.
