Summary: Copper treatment significantly increased astaxanthin and lipid synthesis in Haematococcus pluvialis, leading to upregulation of biosynthesis genes and antioxidant enzyme-related genes, as well as a decrease in reactive oxygen species levels. Additionally, copper induced the activation of protein kinases, facilitating the production of astaxanthin and lipids in the algae.

Summary: This paper investigates the role of proline in the production of biomass and astaxanthin in stress-induced Haematococcus pluvialis. The results show that proline supplementation enhances the biomass, astaxanthin, and lipid contents, as well as regulates chlorophyll, carbohydrate, and protein accumulation. Proline also increases endogenous proline content, while reducing reactive oxygen species and malondialdehyde levels, thus alleviating oxidative stress and promoting astaxanthin biosynthesis. These findings suggest that proline is an effective strategy to improve astaxanthin productivity in Haematococcus pluvialis.

Summary: In this study, exogenous myo-inositol (MI) was used to induce natural astaxanthin and biolipid accumulation in Haematococcus pluvialis. MI addition resulted in increased astaxanthin and lipid content, while also elevating ethylene (ETH) levels and activating antioxidant enzyme-associated gene expression. The ETH signal played a positive role in stimulating astaxanthin biosynthesis under MI induction.

Summary: This study investigated the technical feasibility of inducing astaxanthin biosynthesis in H. pluvialis using electric stimulation in a two-chamber bioelectrochemical system. An optimal voltage of 4 V (anodic current: 30 mA) effectively stimulated astaxanthin biosynthesis, resulting in a 36.9% increase in astaxanthin content in treated cells compared to untreated cells. Proper regulation of bioelectrochemical parameters can improve astaxanthin production in H. pluvialis culture using electric treatment.

Summary: The study reveals that the desiccation tolerance in Haematococcus pluvialis is related to the color of the cells, with red cells showing better tolerance. The mechanisms of desiccation tolerance include changes in cell ultra-structure and synthesis of astaxanthin-rich lipid bodies. The processes of acclimation to desiccation under low and high light conditions have overlapping components, such as accumulation of fatty acids, lipid bodies, and astaxanthin. Atmospheric exposure alone can trigger acclimation to desiccation, and photosynthesis powers this process, but high light stress and dehydration are not strictly necessary.

Summary: In this study, the researchers successfully increased the production of astaxanthin in Haematococcus pluvialis by combining polyethylenimine (PEI) with chitosan. The polyethylenimine concentration had an effect on astaxanthin accumulation, while the molecular weight of chitosan did not. The treatment also increased the reactive oxygen species content in cells, leading to the upregulation of enzymes involved in astaxanthin biosynthesis. The PEI-chitosan fiber treatment showed high recyclability and maintained over 90% astaxanthin production efficiency.
