Summary: This study examined FRP-strengthened girders exposed to brackish water for 12 years and found that while FRP strengthening still influenced girder strength and failure mode, its contribution to structural strength was greatly influenced by construction techniques and exposure conditions.

Summary: The article analyzed the composition and technical condition of concrete from a 100-year-old bridge in South Poland, revealing severe carbonation, high chloride content, and absorption of heavy metals. The research methodology can be applied to bridges exposed to specific external influences, providing useful knowledge for bridge infrastructure management and decision-making on bridge life cycle.

Summary: The study found that Medicaid expansion had a significant impact on early-stage cancer diagnosis, especially in the first year of implementation. However, the effects diminished over time. There was also suggestive evidence of benefits on late-stage cancer diagnosis in the third year of expansion.

Summary: The study validated the 3-PG model for five types of uneven-aged forests in Switzerland and examined the influence of climate change on forest growth. Results showed that the model accurately predicted root biomass, stem biomass, and related outputs, and demonstrated significant impacts of climate change on the growth of these forests.

Summary: BREASTrial is a blinded, randomized trial comparing the outcomes of tissue expander breast reconstruction using AlloDerm or DermaMatrix. The study found that the two materials exhibit similar histologic and clinical outcomes, and patient satisfaction is similar between matrices. Obesity is a predictor of complications, and caution should be exercised when using acellular dermal matrices in obese patients.

Summary: This study evaluated the long-term efficacy and quality of life of sacrospinous ligament fixation (SSLF) using conventional instruments for Chinese women with symptomatic stage 2 and 3 apical prolapse. The results showed that the composite failure rate at year 3 was 21.34%, and the satisfaction rate was 81.40%. Right thigh pain and de novo dyspareunia occurred in some patients after year 1, but there were no complications at year 3. Urinary symptoms and prolapse symptoms improved, while sexual function showed no significant change.

Summary: The study evaluated a screening method for diabetes mellitus in patients with Stage 3 or 4 periodontitis using the FINDRISC questionnaire. Among the patients included, 24.6% were FINDRISC+ and majority of them had an HbA1c level >= 5.7%, indicating a potential presence of diabetes. The FINDRISC questionnaire proved to be appropriate for identifying potential cases of diabetes in patients with advanced periodontitis.

Summary: Over the past two decades, the use of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has surpassed surgical aortic valve replacement, but limited data is available on its long-term durability and predictors of survival. Differences between surgical valve replacement and TAVI in terms of factors like structural deterioration, size, and patient population suggest potential impacts on durability and long-term survival. Higher mortality rates in older patients who undergo TAVI surgeries have been noted in long-term follow-up studies.

Summary: Polypropylene is a key material for geotextiles manufacturing due to its low cost, but environmental degradation can impact its properties over time. This study assessed the degradation of nonwoven polypropylene geotextile exposed to natural weathering, finding significant decreases in physical and mechanical properties with longer exposure durations. Further analysis techniques like thermogravimetric analysis and dynamic-mechanical analysis may be necessary for deeper polymer interpretations.

Summary: This case report describes a 77-year-old man who developed acute heart failure due to leaflet prolapse 7.5 years after successful transcatheter aortic valve replacement. It highlights the potential for structural valve degeneration complicating transcatheter heart valves to present acutely with little warning from previous echocardiograms. Redo transcatheter aortic valve replacement appears to be feasible and safe, with post-deployment optimization techniques potentially improving valve performance.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of different durations of adjuvant therapy on recurrence rates in patients with EGFR-mutant non-small-cell lung cancer. The results showed a lower recurrence rate and longer median recurrence-free survival in the 2-year group compared to the 3-month group.

Summary: This retrospective study analyzes predictive factors for survival and local control in inoperable lung tumors less than 3 cm (stage I) and 5 cm (stage II) treated with Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy (SBRT). The results show that SBRT is associated with excellent overall survival and high local control rates, with low rates of toxicity. Higher radiation doses are linked to better local control outcomes, particularly in patients with comorbidities.

Summary: Franz Hein initiated the highly regarded arylchromium chemistry one century ago with his initial publication in January 1919. The formation of bis(pi-arene)chromium compounds has been studied using pure substrates and different Lewis bases. The synthesis involves three main phases of phenyl group transfer and the origin of hydrogen atoms has been determined using labeling experiments. The results provide valuable insights into the reaction mechanisms and the formation of complexes.
