Summary: The study compared long-term survival between patients undergoing xenograft versus homograft full root aortic valve replacement in a randomized trial. Results showed no significant difference in overall survival at 5, 10, and 15 years, with 20-year survival rates and freedom from aortic valve reoperation similar between the two groups. These findings can serve as a benchmark for future studies on interventions for aortic valve disease in the elderly.

Summary: This study evaluated the growth of unrepaired hypoplastic proximal aortic arches after surgical repair for aortic coarctation. The study found that unrepaired hypoplastic proximal aortic arches grow after repair for aortic coarctation. The reintervention rates were comparable between groups, but patients with tubular hypoplasia of the aortic arch had higher surgical reintervention rates.

Summary: This study found that fibrinogen concentrate administration did not reduce blood loss and transfusion rate in thoracic aortic aneurysm surgery. However, it effectively restored clotting function, suggesting its potential significance in further research.

Summary: This study developed a cryogel SMC@Ag with high water/blood absorption, outstanding hemostatic and antibacterial performance, which showed much better hemostatic performance than the commercial gelatin sponge. The excellent hemostatic activity of SMC@Ag is due to facilitating the coagulation pathway activation and enhancing the platelets adhesion during coagulation process.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate whether 5-m gait speed is associated with postoperative events after elective proximal aortic surgery. The results showed that slow walkers had a higher risk of in-hospital mortality, prolonged ventilation, renal failure, and were less likely to be discharged home. Gait speed may complement existing operative risk models.

Summary: The use of intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) in cardiac surgeries is associated with improved clinical outcomes, including lower mortality rates, incidence of stroke or mortality, and incidence of reoperation or mortality.

Summary: A patient underwent aortic wrapping for aortic dilatation, but ten years later, further enlargement of the aortic root necessitated complete replacement. Extreme degeneration and thinning of the aorta were observed under the graft on both macroscopic and microscopic examination.

Summary: The contact system was affected 6 months after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery. Absolute values of kallikrein generation before and after surgery correlated with contact system proteins, whereas changes after surgery associated with changes in C1-inh and metabolic variables.

Summary: Major surgery can induce physiological changes in hemostasis and coagulation, resulting in a postoperative hypercoagulable or hypocoagulable state for patients. Factors such as the type of surgery, comorbidities, and preoperative medication can influence the surgical hemostasis response.

Summary: This clinical trial compared axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) with axillary radiotherapy (ART) in patients with cT1-2, node-negative breast cancer. The study found that both modalities had comparable axillary control, but ART was associated with less morbidity. Additionally, patients in the ART group had a higher risk of developing second primary cancers.

Summary: This study aimed to review and analyze the prevention and treatment options for postoperative hemorrhage. A total of 138 patients who experienced postoperative hemorrhage after abdominal surgery participated in the study. The main factors associated with secondary hemorrhage were duration of the operation and intervention time, and they were identified as independent predictors of risk of secondary hemorrhage. Proper reductions in operation time and implementation of quick response to bleeding are crucial in tackling secondary hemorrhage after abdominal surgery.

Summary: AV repair/AV-sparing root surgery is an effective strategy for treating young patients with aortic regurgitation and/or aortic root aneurysm. This study analyzed real-world data from the German Aortic Valve Registry and found that the surgical procedure resulted in satisfactory clinical outcomes, including high survival rates and freedom from cardiac adverse events at one year. Additionally, the specific surgical technique used did not significantly impact the outcomes.
