Summary: This study examines the prevalence of dementia and mild cognitive impairment (MCI) among incarcerated individuals in the United States. The findings highlight the importance of understanding the link between cognitive impairment and incarceration in order to inform healthcare optimization and prevention strategies for this vulnerable population.

Summary: This study compared diagnostic rates and clinical predictors between NIA-AA criteria and DSM-5 criteria, finding that discrepancies were more likely in individuals with a history of MDD or carrying at least one ApoE4 allele. Detailed neuropsychological testing and NIA-AA criteria identified a greater prevalence of cognitive impairment compared to DSM-5 criteria and the Montreal Cognitive Assessment.

Summary: Based on electronic health records data, a study found that US veterans have a unique dementia risk profile that may be changing over time. From 2000 to 2019, the incidence and prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) decreased, while ADRD prevalence increased primarily due to an increase in dementia not otherwise specified. The prevalence and incidence of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) sharply increased, especially after 2010. The highest prevalence and incidence of AD, ADRD, and MCI were observed in the oldest veterans, female veterans, and African American and Hispanic veterans.

Summary: This study aims to determine the prevalence of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in Singapore and study the associated psychosocial factors. The results showed that the prevalence of MCI in the sample was 21.5%, and individuals with MCI had lower education levels, perceived social support, and higher depressive symptoms compared to normal aging group. Three distinct psychosocial profiles were identified within the MCI group, which could reflect the different implications of MCI on well-being. The negative psychosocial profile might be most at risk of conversion to dementia. Future longitudinal studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Summary: Cognitive impairment is a serious condition associated with aging and disruption of inflammation and innate immunity. Recent studies have shown that the innate immune system is prevalent in patients with Alzheimer's disease, and peripheral neutrophil markers can predict a decline in cognitive function in patients with mild cognitive impairment. Furthermore, altered levels of pro-inflammatory interleukins have been reported in patients with mild cognitive impairment, potentially playing a role in the progression from early cognitive impairment to dementia.

Summary: This study estimated the prevalence of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) patients through systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed a high prevalence of MCI in T2DM patients worldwide, especially in China and Asia. Female patients had a higher prevalence of MCI compared to male patients, and older patients had a lower prevalence compared to younger patients.

Summary: The study demonstrated that in post-stroke rehabilitation patients, the Chinese version of Qmci can accurately identify PSD patients and is comparable to MoCA-CN, with a shorter assessment time. However, it had lower accuracy in identifying PSCIND patients, warranting further research for validation.

Summary: This study aimed to compare the actual diagnosis rates of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia in the full Medicare population with the predicted diagnosis rates. The study found that the detection rate for MCI was low, especially among Black and Hispanic beneficiaries. Dementia was diagnosed more frequently, particularly in non-Hispanic White beneficiaries.

Summary: The study found that VR training has moderate to large effects on cognitive abilities in patients with MCI and dementia, improving global cognition, attention, memory, and construction and motor performance in MCI patients, as well as global cognition, memory, and executive function in dementia patients. Moderators such as immersion and training type significantly influence the effects of VR training.

Summary: Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a clinical condition with a high risk of progressing to dementia. Early diagnosis and intervention at the MCI stage are considered critical strategies in disease management. Lack of consensus on guidelines for routine screening of MCI leads to a considerable number of undiagnosed patients in the community.

Summary: Among women with symptomatic uterovaginal prolapse, sacrospinous hysteropexy with graft resulted in a lower surgical failure rate compared to vaginal hysterectomy with uterosacral suspension. Obesity and duration of prolapse symptoms were identified as risk factors associated with surgical failure, and should be considered when determining treatment plans.

Summary: This study investigated whether there are racial and ethnic differences in the risk of being discharged home among patients who received a diagnostic code of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the emergency department (ED). The results showed that Black and Hispanic patients had a higher risk of being discharged home compared to White patients, while Asian/Pacific Islander patients had a relatively lower risk. The association between race and ethnicity and discharge home was marginally mediated by health insurance status.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of AF on cognitive function in patients with hypertension. The results showed that there were differences in the risk of MCI/PD depending on the method used to ascertain AF. Therefore, the case definition of AF and quantification of AF burden are important factors in studying the link between AF and cognitive dysfunction.

Summary: This study evaluated the association between left atrial function and size and ischemic stroke, and determined whether these measures could improve the accuracy of stroke prediction using CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score variables. The results showed that left atrial size and function were associated with ischemic stroke, and the cumulative incidence rates of severe left atrial enlargement were 2.99%, 3.18%, and 1.99% for left atrial reservoir, conduit, and contractile strain, respectively. Adding left atrial function measures to CHA(2)DS(2)-VASc score variables improved stroke prediction accuracy.

Summary: The study aimed to determine the role of intraoperative data in predicting the outcomes of sacral neuromodulation for urgency urinary incontinence. The analysis of intraoperative details from the ROSETTA trial showed that intraoperative data had limited utility in predicting both acute and long-term outcomes. However, the position of the implant lead in relation to the trajectory of the sacral nerve root appeared to be important.

Summary: The objective of this study was to assess the association between SGLT2 inhibitors and other second-line diabetes therapies with the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and conduct head-to-head comparisons between SGLT2 inhibitors. Using data from the MarketScan databases, SGLT2 inhibitor users were matched with other second-line therapy users. The results showed that SGLT2 inhibitors were associated with a lower risk of CVD compared to other second-line therapies. No significant differences were found when comparing individual SGLT2 inhibitors.
