Summary: This study investigated the hospitalization rate of COVID-19 positive patients discharged to self-quarantine, finding that over 10% required hospitalization within three weeks, with the low albumin group having more comorbidities. However, low serum albumin was not associated with an increased risk of hospitalization in these patients.

Summary: Compelling research has shown that diabetes mellitus is a major risk factor for increased cancer incidence and mortality. Classic factors like hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, metabolic inflammation, and dyslipidemia contribute to this association. New emerging factors including the microbiome, epigenetic changes, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and increased glycolytic influx also play important roles in cancer development. The impact of different glucose-lowering therapeutic agents on this association remains controversial.

Summary: This study aimed to develop an inflammatory food index based on the relationship between food items and biomarkers of inflammation, and evaluate its association with weight gain and type 2 diabetes. The findings suggest that subclinical inflammation caused by a proinflammatory food pattern, mainly characterized by greater consumption of ultra-processed foods, is closely related to weight gain and the development of type 2 diabetes.

Summary: This study demonstrates that RDW and RDW/ALB ratio are robust and independent prognostic markers in patients with DFUs. The RDW/ALB ratio appears to be of more predictive value for mortality in younger and less severely ill patients with DFUs. Both RDW and RDW/ALB ratio can provide incremental predictive value for all-cause mortality over traditional risk factors.

Summary: In this study, the causal role of gut microbiota in inducing gut permeability, inflammation, and glucose metabolic dysfunctions was demonstrated. It was found that obese microbiota has reduced capacity to metabolize ethanolamine, leading to its accumulation in the gut and subsequent induction of gut permeability, inflammation, and abnormalities in glucose metabolism. Restoring ethanolamine-metabolizing capacity by a novel probiotic therapy can reverse these abnormalities.

Particularly in fenitrothion poisoning, the protective effect of serum albumin may contribute to this association. These results should be further validated.

Summary: The development of eating habits and patterns in childhood can have long-term effects on weight and health. The family structure and interactions during mealtimes can influence the eating behaviors of children. A study in Saudi Arabia examined the association between sibship composition and child eating behaviors in preschoolers. The results showed that having more older siblings was positively associated with emotional overeating, food responsiveness, and the desire to drink. Having more older sisters was positively associated with the desire to drink but negatively associated with food fussiness. This suggests that focusing on older siblings in promoting healthy eating habits and appropriate food choices may be beneficial in preventing excessive energy intake and weight gain.

Summary: This study aimed to examine changes in maternal feeding behaviors and maternal feeding stress among mothers of preschoolers in Saudi Arabia before and during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The results showed that during the pandemic period, mothers reported an increase in perceived responsibility and monitoring, a decrease in the use of food as a reward and concern about child's diet, and an increase in maternal resentment/difficult child.

Summary: This study aims to evaluate the prevalence of nutrition label use among Saudi mothers and explore factors influencing their food choices during grocery shopping. The results showed that a high percentage of participants read labels before purchasing, and factors such as product healthfulness, children's preference, and family members' needs significantly influenced their purchasing decisions. However, there was a lack of understanding of the light food label. Further research with a larger sample size and diverse sociodemographic characteristics is needed. These findings highlight the importance of considering key drivers for food purchasing decisions and implementing educational initiatives in Saudi Arabia.
