Summary: This study demonstrates that Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) improves deoxynivalenol (DON)-induced anorexia by modulating gut microbiota. LGG enhances intestinal barrier function, reduces intestinal inflammation, promotes food intake, and decreases weight loss. Antibiotic treatment and fecal microbiota transplant experiments confirm that gut microbiota is the primary vector for DON toxic effects and an essential mediator of LGG protection.

Summary: This study delves into the colonization of P. acnes by Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and its impact on metabolites and inflammatory responses. Results show that co-association of LGG significantly reduces P. acnes abundance in the gut and has a significant impact on the host's metabolite output and inflammatory response.

Summary: The study shows that oral administration of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG can enhance colonic CD8 T-cell responses in mice and reduce tumor burden. This suggests the potential use of LGG to augment antitumor immune responses in colorectal cancer patients and increase the efficacy of immunotherapy.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the role of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) probiotics in radiation enteritis using in vivo mice. The results showed that the simultaneous use of probiotics during radiation therapy significantly reduced the concentration of pro-inflammatory cytokines in colon tissues. Additionally, there were differences in the microbial species and metabolic pathways between the group that received both probiotics and radiation therapy and the group that received radiation therapy alone.

Summary: In this study, a specific synbiotic composed of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) and jujube powder significantly enhanced the therapeutic effects of whole cells cancer vaccine in MC38 cancer cells bearing-mouse. The utilization of LGG increased the abundance of Muribaculaceae and improved anti-tumor effect, while reducing microbial diversity. The use of jujube powder enriched microbial diversity and improved lipid metabolism, leading to increased infiltration of CD8(+) T cells in the tumor microenvironment and enhanced the potency of cancer vaccine.

Summary: Probiotic LGG-EVs show potential in attenuating colitis by inhibiting the TLR4-NF-kappa B-NLRP3 signaling pathway, reducing the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, and reshaping gut microbiota. These findings suggest a promising therapeutic approach for colitis using oral gavage of LGG-EVs.

Summary: In this study, the therapeutic effects of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) on ovariectomized (OVX) model rats were investigated. The results showed that LGG treatment could protect OVX rats by improving bone microarchitecture, bone biomechanics, and expression levels of certain markers. Additionally, LGG could regulate the gut microbiome, intestinal barrier, and Th17/Treg balance in gut and bone.

Summary: The sortase-negative mutant strain PA11 of Lacticaseibacillus rhamnosus GG secretes its SpaCBA pili into the supernatant due to a defect in housekeeping sortase A. This strain provides novel opportunities for characterizing and therapeutically applying the mucus-binding pili of L. rhamnosus GG, potentially allowing for low-cost, large-scale production.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of pretreatment with Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) on sepsis survival and alterations in gut microbiota, blood cytokines, and chemokines in a mouse model. Results showed that LGG improved survival from LPS-induced sepsis by altering gut microbiota and reducing the host immune system's reactivity to pathogens.

Summary: Our study demonstrates that oral administration of live LGG enhances the antitumour activity of anti-PD-1 immunotherapy by increasing tumour-infiltrating DCs and T cells, and by shifting the gut microbial community towards enrichment in Lactobacillus murinus and Bacteroides uniformis. Mechanistically, LGG induces IFN-beta production via the cGAS/STING/TBK1/IRF7 axis in DCs, highlighting the potential of LGG as a combination agent with ICB for cancer therapies.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether early life colonization of the probiotic Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG) could alleviate anxiety in adulthood through regulation of the gut-brain axis. The results showed that LGG colonization protected the intestinal barrier of offspring and modulated the gut-brain axis, leading to relief of anxiety-like behavior in adulthood.

Summary: This study measured the calcium and iron content of gluten-free cereal-based products from the UK. The results showed that gluten-free white loaf had a lower calcium content compared with wheat-based loaf, and only 27% of gluten-free white loaves were fortified with calcium, while 100% of wheat-based white loaves contained calcium. The calcium content of gluten-free flour mixes varied, but the majority were fortified. Gluten-free white pasta had more calcium compared with wheat-based pasta. In terms of iron content, gluten-free bread and pasta were similar to wheat-based comparators, while lower iron levels were observed in gluten-free wraps. Gluten-free bread had a significantly higher fiber content and lower protein content compared with wheat-based bread products.

Summary: This study investigated the impact of a high-fat, high-fructose diet on gut microbiota composition, phenolic acid metabolites production, and pancreatic beta cell function using a rodent model and in vitro gut model system. The results indicated that the dysbiotic microbiota of HFHFr mice could be modulated by wholegrain fermentation, leading to changes in phenolic acid profiles and affecting the secretory capacity of pancreatic beta cells.

Summary: Oxidative stress and inflammation caused by oxidised lipids in the diet, such as oxysterols, are associated with the loss of intestinal barrier integrity, which is a crucial event in intestinal disorders. Probiotic lactobacilli have shown potential in improving intestinal health due to their antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. This study aimed to assess the ability of two commercial probiotic strains of lactobacilli to attenuate oxysterols-induced alteration of intestinal permeability in Caco-2 cells. The results indicated that both live bacteria and intracellular components of the probiotics were able to counteract the permeability changes and loss of tight junction proteins, at least partially through modulation of the p38 pathway.
