Context. Massive stars are important building blocks of the Universe, and their stellar structure and evolution models are fundamental cornerstones of various fields in modern astrophysics. The precision of these models is strongly limited by our lack of understanding of various internal mixing processes that significantly influence the lifetime of these objects, such as core overshoot, chemical mixing, or the internal differential rotation. Aims. Our goal is to calibrate models by extending the sample of available seismic studies of slowly pulsating B (SPB) stars, providing input for theoretical modelling efforts that will deliver precise constraints on the parameters describing the internal mixing processes in these objects. Methods. We used spectral synthesis and disentangling techniques to derive fundamental parameters and to determine precise orbital parameters from high-resolution spectra. We employed custom masks to construct light curves from the virtually uninterrupted four year long Kepler pixel data and used standard time-series analysis tools to construct a set of significant frequencies for each target. These sets were first filtered from combination frequencies, and then screened for period spacing patterns. Results. We detect gravity mode period series of modes, of the same degree l with consecutive radial order n; in four new and one revisited SPB star. These series (covering typically 10 to 40 radial orders) are clearly influenced by moderate to fast rotation and carry signatures of chemical mixing processes. Furthermore, they are predominantly prograde dipole series. Our spectroscopic analysis, in addition to placing each object inside the SPB instability strip and identifying KIC 4930889 as an SB2 binary, reveals that KIC 11971405 is a fast rotator that shows very weak Be signatures. Together with the observed photometric outbursts this illustrates that this Be star is a fast rotating SPB star. We hypothesise that the outbursts might be connected to its very densely compressed oscillation spectrum.

Tidal perturbations and eclipse mapping in the pulsations in the hierarchical triple system U Gru

C. Johnston, A. Tkachenko, T. Van Reeth, D. M. Bowman, K. Pavlovski, H. Sana, S. Sekaran

Summary: Researchers investigated U Gru and found that it is likely a hierarchical triple system. They proposed that the series of frequencies separated by the orbital frequency can be reproduced by eclipse mapping caused by tidal forces. The study demonstrates the influence of tidal forces on the pulsations of U Gru.

High-mass eclipsing binaries: A testbed for models of interior structure and evolution Accurate fundamental properties and surface chemical composition for V1034 Sco, GL Car, V573 Car, and V346 Cen

Summary: The study aims to enlarge the sample size of high-mass binary stars by determining the physical properties and photospheric abundances of four eclipsing binary systems. High-resolution spectroscopy from HARPS and light curve modeling from TESS were used to analyze the data. The results show precise measurements of stellar masses, radii, effective temperatures, and abundances of several elements, supporting the previous conclusion that chemical element transport is less efficient in binary stars due to tidal forces.

Tidally perturbed gravity-mode pulsations in a sample of close eclipsing binaries

Summary: By analyzing the observations of 35 binary systems, we have detected five gravitationally-mode pulsations caused by tidal perturbations. These pulsations not only exist in different regions of the same star, but also exhibit the same amplitude and phase variations in multiple photometric passbands. These findings contribute to a better understanding of binary systems and stellar interior structure.

Lyα Scattering Models Trace Accretion and Outflow Kinematics in T Tauri Systems*

Herczeg, Carlo F. Manara, Laura Venuti, Peter Abraham, Richard Alexander, Jerome Bouvier, Justyn Campbell-White, Jochen Eisloeffel, William J. J. Fischer, Agnes Kospal, Miguel Vioque

Summary: T Tauri stars produce Ly alpha emission lines that account for 88% of the total UV flux on inner circumstellar disks. The Ly alpha photons are generated at accretion shocks and protostellar chromospheres, and must travel through various environments before reaching the observer, resulting in asymmetric double-peaked features. By modeling HST-COS spectra, we find a correlation between model velocities and K-band veiling, indicating an evolution of Ly alpha irradiation in gas disks over time.

Sensitivity study of chemistry in AGB outflows using chemical kinetics

S. Maes, M. Van de Sande, T. Danilovich, F. De Ceuster, L. Decin

Summary: Asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars lose mass through stellar wind, forming vast circumstellar envelopes (CSE) that are ideal astrochemical laboratories. However, the impact of changes in the physical environment on chemical abundances in AGB outflows is not well understood. A systematic sensitivity study is crucial to estimate uncertainties in simulations and observations. In this study, we investigate the impact of varying outflow densities and temperature profiles on chemistry in the CSE, providing valuable insights for observational studies.

Unresolved Rossby and gravity modes in 214 A and F stars showing rotational modulation

Andreea Henriksen, Victoria Antoci, Hideyuki Saio, Frank Grundahl, Hans Kjeldsen, Timothy Van Reeth, Dominic M. Bowman, Peter Papics, Peter De Cat, Joachim Kruger, M. Fredslund Andersen, P. L. Palle

Summary: In this study, we analyze 214 A- and F-type stars observed by Kepler and find distinct periodic signals known as the hump and spike, attributed to Rossby modes and magnetic stellar spots or overstable convective modes, respectively. We determine the power of the hump features and observe additional gravity-mode humps occurring at higher frequencies than the spike. We also investigate the correlation between the spike amplitude and the power in different oscillation modes.

Density streams in the disc winds of Classical T Tauri stars

P. P. Petrov, K. N. Grankin, E. Babina, S. A. Artemenko, M. M. Romanova, S. Yu Gorda, A. A. Djupvik, J. F. Gameiro

Summary: In this study, the spectral and photometric variability of the Classical T Tauri stars RY Tau and SU Aur from 2013 to 2022 is analyzed. It is found that the flux of the H alpha line in SU Aur varies with a period of 255 +/- 5 d at a radial velocity of RV = -50 +/- 7 km s(-1). A similar effect is confirmed in RY Tau with a period of 21.6 d at RV = -95 +/- 5 km s. Kepler's law suggests that these variations in radial velocity, period, and star mass are related to structural features on the disc plane orbiting at radii of 0.2 au in RY Tau and 0.9 au in SU Aur. The findings provide an opportunity to understand the inner accretion disc structure of CTTS on scales less than 1 au and reveal orbital distances related to planet formation.

Disentangling physics and chemistry in AGB outflows: revealing degeneracies when adding complexity

Marie van de Sande, Catherine Walsh, Tom J. Millar

Summary: Observations of the outflows of AGB stars have shown their chemical and dynamical complexity, with spherical asymmetries and spirals caused by binary interactions, and high density outflows showing dust-gas interactions. The classical gas-phase only and spherically symmetric chemical model is inadequate for most observed outflows, and a more advanced model that considers physical and chemical complexities is needed.

Experimental and theoretical study of the low-temperature kinetics of the reaction of CN with CH2O and implications for interstellar environments

Niclas A. West, Lok Hin Desmond Li, Tom J. Millar, Marie Van de Sande, Edward Rutter, Mark A. Blitz, Julia H. Lehman, Leen Decin, Dwayne E. Heard

Summary: Rate coefficients for the reaction of CN with CH2O were measured below room temperature and exhibited a negative temperature dependence. The reaction proceeds through the formation of a weakly-bound van der Waals complex, followed by two transition states leading to the products HCN + HCO or HNC + HCO. MESMER simulations of the rate coefficients were in good agreement with experimental data and were used to recommend modified Arrhenius expressions for astrochemical modeling.
