Summary: The study aimed to investigate whether DEX improves cognitive impairment by promoting hippocampal neurogenesis via the BDNF/TrkB/CREB signaling pathway in neonatal rats with HIBD. The results demonstrated that DEX effectively increased the protein expression of BDNF and the phosphorylation of TrkB and CREB, promoting neurogenesis in the dentate gyrus of the hippocampus in neonatal rats with HIBD. Furthermore, inhibiting the BDNF/TrkB/CREB pathway significantly counteracted the advantageous outcomes of DEX on hippocampal neurogenesis, neuronal survival, and cognitive improvement.

Summary: The study found that PBM treatment had a significant neuroprotective effect and improved spatial learning and memory ability at 58 days post-ischemia. Mechanistic studies showed that PBM suppressed reactive astrocytes and increased neurogenesis, contributing to neurological recovery after GCI.

Summary: Alzheimer's disease is the most common cause of dementia worldwide. The lack of established pathology makes it challenging to find suitable approaches for treatment. In addition to the known hallmarks of the disease, such as amyloid β peptides and hyperphosphorylated tau, inflammation and diet also play important roles. Adhering to a beneficial diet high in neuroprotective foods and BDNF-boosting substances may improve memory, cognition, and biomarkers, and even reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of paroxetine as an antidepressant medication on passive avoidance memory deficit following cerebral ischemia in rats. Paroxetine improved passive avoidance memory, hippocampal synaptic plasticity, and BDNF content while suppressing oxidative/nitrosative stress in rats with cerebral ischemia.

Summary: This study found that naringin promotes adult hippocampal neurogenesis and improves depression-like behaviors by regulating the BDNF/TrkB/CREB signaling pathway. The results showed that naringin enhances the proliferation of neural stem/progenitor cells and accelerates neuronal differentiation, and its antidepressant and anxiolytic effects are attributed to enhanced hippocampal neurogenesis via activating CREB signaling.

Summary: Poststroke cognitive impairment and dementia is a common problem among stroke patients, influenced by factors such as age, education level, preexisting cognitive decline, and history of prior stroke. Manifestations of cerebral small vessel disease also contribute to cognitive outcomes. Understanding the interaction between acute stroke events and preexisting brain pathology is crucial for personalized prediction, prevention, targeted interventions, and rehabilitation.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the implication of adult hippocampal neurogenesis in hypoperfusion-induced vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID) in mice. The results demonstrated that hypoperfused mice exhibited spatial memory deficits and reduced newborn neuron numbers with aberrant morphology. These findings provide new insights into diagnostic and therapeutic targets for VCID.
