Summary: This study aims to present the technically specific features of the avatera robotic system and our initial experience with its use in robot-assisted pyeloplasty. The study included nine patients who underwent successful RAP using the avatera system without complications or significant blood loss. The early outcomes of avatera system in RAP were found to be safe and effective.

Summary: This study evaluated the benefits and safety of transperitoneal and retroperitoneal pyeloplasty for ureteropelvic junction obstruction through a meta-analysis. The results showed that there were no significant differences in success rate, hospital stay, and overall complications between the two approaches. However, the retroperitoneal approach had longer operative time and higher conversion rate compared to the transperitoneal approach.

Summary: This study compared the characteristics of conventional laparoscopic pyeloplasty (LP) and robotic-assisted laparoscopic pyeloplasty (RALP) in infants and young children with ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO). The results showed that RALP has the advantages of less trauma and faster recovery. It can be safely and effectively performed in infants and young children, and its effectiveness is similar to that of traditional LP.

Summary: Despite an overall increase in survival over time, the presence of comorbid diseases reduced the survival of patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC). Patients with no comorbidity showed a gradual increase in 5-year survival rates, while those with 1-2 comorbidities and >=3 comorbidities had higher mortality rates. This pattern was consistent among both younger and older patients.

Summary: The study aimed to develop an assessment tool for transurethral resection of bladder tumors (TURB) and explore its validity evidence in a clinical context. The results showed that the newly developed assessment tool had good internal consistency reliability, inter-rater reliability, and test-retest reliability, and could be used for assessing surgical proficiency in clinical practice. However, direct observation assessment and self-assessment were found to be biased, and blinded video assessment of TURB performances was recommended.

Additionally, based on the studies included in this review, partial nephrectomy appears to have a higher complication rate compared with ablation therapies.

Summary: This study validated the performance of the GRade, Age, Nodes, and Tumor score and Leibovich score in predicting disease recurrence in clear cell and non-clear cell renal cell carcinoma. The Leibovich score outperformed the GRade, Age, Nodes, and Tumor score in predicting recurrence-free survival and should be used as the standard approach to risk stratify patients during follow-up when all data are available.

Summary: In this study, we investigated the prognostic accuracy of preoperative plasma suPAR in patients with localized ccRCC. The results showed that elevated suPAR levels (≥6 ng/mL) were associated with a higher risk of disease recurrence and lower overall survival. suPAR could be a promising surveillance tool for monitoring ccRCC patients and detecting future recurrences.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the impact of patient-related or clinical risk factors at the diagnosis of advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC) on overall mortality, cancer-specific mortality, and recurrence risk. The findings showed that positive surgical margin, synchronous metastasis, and poor performance status were significantly associated with decreased 5-year overall and cancer-specific survival. Furthermore, positive surgical margin was associated with a higher risk of recurrence in ccRCC. Interestingly, MDT discussion was found to reduce mortality risk in non-ccRCC patients.
