Plasmonic and amorphous oxygen-vacancy MoO3-x spheres were obtained as highly active and stable photoanodes for water oxidation. Combining the advantages of plasmonic and amorphous effects, the visible-near-infrared light harvest and charge-separation efficiency were significantly enhanced compared to those of conventional crystalline MoO3.
