Background. Despite the large number of studies assessing health literacy, little research has been conducted with young adults. Since health literacy is related to the setting in which health information is provided, our study aim was to measure health literacy competencies in a sample of university students and to evaluate the relationships between these competencies and their university health education. Methods. A total of 912 university students (aged 18-24 years) completed the 47-item European Health Literacy Survey Questionnaire (HLS-EU-Q47). Results. Perceived difficulties with health information were related to gender, with male students reporting significantly lower health literacy scores. Studying more health education-related subjects was associated with a higher health literacy competency, due to these students' higher rates of accessing and understanding health information in the health promotion domain. Conclusion. Health literacy among young adult university students is insufficient. The subjects they study are related to their university health education; in particular, the number of health-related subjects they study is positively related to students' health promotion domain-based competencies.

Summary: The objective of this meta-analysis was to evaluate the effect of whole-body vibration training on lower limb motor function in children with cerebral palsy. Thirteen randomized-controlled trials were included in the analysis, and the results showed that whole-body vibration training could effectively improve the lower limb motor function of children with cerebral palsy.

Quantitative and qualitative criteria for assessing gait speed in women aged 60-75 years - A pilot study

Zbigniew Ossowski

Summary: This study aimed to develop quantitative and qualitative criteria to assess gait speed in women aged 60-75 years. The data collected during the GS test was analyzed, and a range of gait speed from 1.25 m/s to 2.3 m/s was identified. The scale presented in this study can serve as an effective tool for evaluating and programming physical activity.

Skeletal muscle index and its association with mobility among community-dwelling older women

Zbigniew M. Ossowski

Summary: The study found a positive correlation between the skeletal muscle index and functional mobility in older women. However, lower extremity strength was a better parameter in predicting mobility. These findings suggest that focusing on functional strength of lower extremity muscles may have a greater impact on mobility in older individuals.
