Summary: The study shows that installing an anaerobic digester on a small island can provide significant contributions to the island's energy system, by diversifying energy sources and increasing renewable energy penetration and independence. With advantageous payback time (4-5 years), mainly due to significant savings in maritime transport and partial avoidance of waste disposal on the mainland.

Summary: This study evaluated the anaerobic digestion of agricultural waste, manure, and slaughterhouse residues from species typical of the Andes region, such as llama, vicuna, and guinea pig; quinoa, amaranth, and wheat straw. The highest methane production rates were achieved for flame manure and quinoa straw at an RSI of 1:2, with significant increases compared to an RSI of 1:1. The modified Gompertz model proved to be the best fit for performance analysis, with a constant difference of 7.06% between experimental and predicted values.

Summary: This review summarizes possible schemes for resource recovery of agricultural bio-waste, including the chemical conversion of crop straws into biochar and the biological conversion of livestock waste into value-added products, to achieve key nutrient circulation. It also proposes a high-quality compost production approach through the amendment of biochar and residual digestate, aiming to reduce nitrogen emissions and maintain carbon balance.

Summary: Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a versatile technology that can produce biofuels, biochemicals, and fertilizer as part of the circular bioeconomy. Agricultural residues, such as animal slurry, straw, and grass silage, are valuable resources with significant potential to increase biogas and methane yields. However, it is crucial to assess the long-term impacts and the potential accumulation of unwanted substances. This comprehensive literature review analyzes the benefits and environmental impacts of using agricultural residues for AD and highlights potential risks and challenges in developing a biogas-centered circular bioeconomy.

Summary: The study found that coconut husk biochar can slow down nitrate leaching in soil, reduce the abundance of nitrifying archaea and bacteria, and help improve soil nutrient conditions. This is relevant for the development of a more circular rural economy with waste minimization, renewable energy production, nutrient recycling, and reduced water pollution from agricultural land.

Summary: The study proposes a method for biomass pretreatment using a jet-driven Helmholtz oscillator. The device design allows for optimal hydraulic cavitation, leading to acoustic oscillations and resonance. Experimental research on the variation of resonator chamber diameter, length, and outlet diameter determined the optimal design parameters. Improving agricultural waste disposal technology can maximize utilization of waste, reduce traditional fuel and energy consumption, and enhance technological and machine-building capabilities to produce competitive cavitation reactors.

Summary: The aim of this research was to explore the application of waste activated sludge (WAS) pretreatment processes in anaerobic digestion. The results showed significant reductions in pathogenic bacteria, coliphages, and parasite eggs using hydrodynamic disintegration and freezing/thawing disintegration methods. The hybrid disintegration method achieved the best results.

Summary: In response to worsening climate issues, nations are focusing on developing renewable energy sources. Biomass, particularly swine biomass, can contribute to green competitive advantages in terms of cost for agricultural units. This article aims to analyze the economic, environmental, and energy potential of swine waste in breeding units and the Brazilian energy matrix. The results indicate that the use of swine biomass is economically viable, especially for the production of bioelectricity, biofertilizers, and biomethane. It is recommended to reformulate incentive policies, implement feed-in tariffs, and promote the use of biofertilizers to replace synthetic fertilizers.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of waste composition on the quality of biogas and digestate produced from anaerobically digested food waste. The results show that waste composition significantly impacts biogas quality, but not digestate quality. Wastes with higher proportions of proteins and fats enhance biogas quality, while those rich in soluble carbohydrates do not. Additionally, codigestion of omnivorous food waste with carbon-rich agricultural waste improves biogas quality.
