Summary: This study described a simple protocol for in vitro rooting induction of the important medicinal plant Coleus forskohlii Briq. The protocol resulted in increased content of secondary metabolites with antioxidant activity in the plant. The addition of auxins influenced the synthesis of secondary metabolites, with higher levels observed when indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) was used. The results also indicated that organogenesis is a complex biological process involving regulation of plant enzyme and non-enzyme antioxidant protection systems.

Summary: Costus speciosus is a medicinally important plant, and this study aimed to evaluate its pharmacognostical and pharmacological potential. The researchers assessed eleven germplasms for diosgenin content and correlated it with the edaphic factors of the rhizospheric soil. They developed a method for high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC) to quantify diosgenin and analyzed the anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory activities of each germplasm. The study provides valuable information for the herbal drug industry and the cultivation of quality planting material.
