Summary: In this study, we discovered a new approach to alleviate liver damage caused by severe septic shock by controlling a form of controlled cell death called ferroptosis. We found that artemisitene (ATT) significantly reduced liver damage and ferroptotic characteristics. Additionally, ATT reduced the expression of the nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) subunit to reduce LPS-induced hepatic oxidative stress and inflammation, and upregulated the expression of the nuclear factor-erythroid 2 (NF-E2)-related factor 2 (Nrf2) and its downstream protein heme oxygenase 1 (HO-1).

Summary: Acute liver failure (ALF) is a clinical condition with many causes and a poor prognosis. This study investigated the involvement of microbial metabolites in ALF development and found that certain indole derivatives sensitized mice to ALF and exacerbated the inflammatory response and cellular damage. The study also observed changes in gut microbiota and the expression of Toll-like receptor 2 (Tlr2) in the liver.

Summary: NRF2 is a master transcription factor that regulates the expression of detoxifying and antioxidant genes. It plays a role in redox regulation, metabolism, inflammation/autoimmune disease, cancer, and radioresistance. Activation of NRF2 pathways by ionizing radiation is delayed and may be critical for immune transition and cellular survival.

Summary: Formononetin (FOR), a natural flavonoid, has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative effects. This study investigated the protective mechanism of FOR against LPS-induced mastitis and found that it inhibits inflammation and enhances blood-milk barrier integrity through the AhR-induced Src inactivation.

Summary: The study demonstrated that trifluoperazine (TF) can improve cuprizone-induced behavioral and histopathological changes in the prefrontal cortex of male C57BL/6 mice by reversing weight loss, motor deficits, and demyelination. TF administration also normalized the changes in oxidative stress markers and signaling pathways associated with cuprizone exposure.

Summary: This study investigated the anti-inflammatory mechanism of Schisandrin B (Sch B) in macrophages and an animal model of acute lung injury (ALI) and found that Sch B directly binds to MyD88 to regulate inflammatory responses and inhibit the expression of inflammatory factors. The study suggests that Sch B has therapeutic potential for ALI and other MyD88-dependent inflammatory diseases.
