Summary: The production of fatty acid methyl esters requires the use of cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and effective catalysts. Currently, alkaline and acidic catalysts in both homogeneous and heterogeneous phases are widely used. Promising catalysts include heteropoly acids, polyoxometalate compounds, carbonaceous materials, and vanadium phosphate. Biocatalysts, especially lipase, are also gaining attention for large-scale FAME production. Future directions include exploring the possibilities of these catalysts in biodiesel production.

Summary: Elastomeric materials, such as polyurethanes, silicones, and acrylic elastomers, are commonly used in actuator design and soft robot development due to their outstanding properties. However, conventional synthetic methods used to produce these materials may have negative environmental and health impacts. Therefore, the development of new synthetic routes using green chemistry principles and the synthesis of elastomers from renewable bioresources are important steps towards creating sustainable and biocompatible materials. This review aims to address existing approaches to green synthesis of elastomers, compare their properties with traditional materials, and analyze their feasibility for actuators. Moreover, it discusses the advantages, challenges, and future prospects of green elastomer synthesis.

Summary: The utilization of photo-induced processes in C-H functionalization via radical pathways has shown great potential for the preparation and modification of complex organic compounds. While current methods mainly focus on nucleophilic radicals derived from hydridic C-H bonds, the activation and potential applications of electrophilic radicals from protic C-H bonds remain largely unexplored. This review aims to highlight the important discoveries and showcase examples of protic C(sp(3))-H bond activation through mechanistically diverse modes unified by proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) concepts.
