Summary: The study aims to investigate the relationship between serum 25(OH)D and carotid artery intima-media thickness (CIMT) in men with erectile dysfunction (ED). Results showed that serum 25(OH)D levels were significantly decreased in ED patients compared to the healthy control group, while CIMT values were significantly increased in the moderate and severe ED groups compared to the control group. IIEF-5 score was positively correlated with serum 25(OH)D level and negatively correlated with CIMT value. After adjusting for confounding factors, there were significant associations between CIMT values, 25(OH)D levels, and IIEF-5 scores.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the rate of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis and the clinical significance of immunoinflammatory markers in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. The results showed a higher occurrence of subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in RA patients compared to the control group. There was no correlation between serum markers and subclinical carotid atherosclerosis in RA patients. The study revealed the association between cIMT, traditional cardiovascular risk factors, and immunoinflammatory markers in RA patients.

Summary: In men, autoimmune diseases were associated with increased common carotid intima-media thickness and higher percentage of individuals with thicker IMT. However, no significant differences were observed in arterial stiffness. Women, on the other hand, did not show significant differences in any of the carotid features between those with and without autoimmune diseases. Sex was found to be an effect modifier in the association between common carotid IMT values and autoimmune diseases diagnosis.

Summary: In a prospective study with over 20 years of follow-up, the length of plaques in abdominal-pelvic main arteries (SUM) was found to be a superior indicator for evaluating overall cardiovascular risk compared to carotid intima-media thickness (IMT). SUM significantly predicted CV events and improved the discrimination and reclassification of patients when added to the established model, while IMT only predicted cardiovascular events in univariate analysis and did not improve discrimination or reclassification.

Summary: This study reveals that abnormal T-cell responses may play important roles in the progression of essential hypertension and its subclinical target organ damage. The TCR beta repertoires of patients with essential hypertension are significantly different, and are correlated with carotid plaque formation.

Summary: S1 levels may rise in AS patients to suppress the inverse effects of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammation. Our study found a negative relationship between cIMT values of AS patients and S1 levels, indicating a protective effect of S1 on the development of atherosclerosis in AS patients.

Summary: The study demonstrates an association between decreased levels of Klotho protein and subclinical atherosclerosis in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Both serum and peripheral blood cells (PBCs) expression levels of Klotho were found to be significantly lower in patients with subclinical atherosclerosis, and were independent determinants for arterial stiffness markers. This suggests that maintaining or elevating Klotho levels may have potential therapeutic benefits in reducing cardiovascular disease risk in CKD patients.

Summary: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects approximately 6%-10% of women worldwide, with features of hyperandrogenism, irregular menses, infertility, and polycystic appearing ovaries on ultrasound. PCOS is also associated with endocrine and metabolic disorders that increase the risk for subclinical cardiovascular disease.

Summary: The study demonstrates that residents in areas with high concentrations of gaseous air pollutants have increased carotid atherosclerotic burden and inflammation compared to residents in other regions. High levels of CO, NO2, and SO2 were observed in Region 4, where individuals also showed higher levels of C reactive protein and greater carotid plaque burden. Additionally, the propensity score analysis indicated higher differences in mean cIMT among individuals with coronary artery disease in high pollution areas compared to low pollution areas.

Summary: In recent years, new anthropometric indices have been developed as alternatives to BMI and other traditional measurements to enhance the estimation of fat proportion and its relationship to future cardiovascular events. This study investigated the association between carotid intima-media thickness (c-IMT) estimated by Doppler ultrasound and current anthropometric indices. The study found that ABSI, CI, and WWI were positively associated with pathological c-IMT, independent of other confounders.

Summary: This study analyzed the association between the APOE e4 genetic variant and carotid atherosclerosis, as well as the association between cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) and atherosclerosis in individuals with the APOE e4 genetic variant. The findings showed that the APOE e4e4 genotype was associated with increased carotid atherosclerosis, while CRF was a modifiable factor that could be targeted to decrease the atherosclerotic risk in individuals with the APOE e4e4 genetic variant.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate and compare the relationships between five different measures of carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT) and coronary calcium. The results showed that Mean-Max cIMT had consistently stronger associations with coronary calcium, independent of important confounders such as age. The commonly used measure, CCA(mean), was no longer associated with coronary calcium after age-adjustment and stratification.

Summary: This study aims to investigate the relationship between individual votes and Panel recommendations in the premarket review process of medical devices. It found that non-physicians, non-biostatisticians, experienced Panelists, and more talkative members are likely to vote against the majority. The presence of biostatisticians on Panels increases voting consensus. Having a diversity of opinions, including those likely to dissent from majority views, helps ensure diverse perspectives are considered before decision-making.

Summary: Myocarditis is significantly associated with higher in-hospital mortality and adverse hospital outcomes among patients with COVID-19. The rate of in-hospital mortality is higher in COVID-19 hospitalizations with myocarditis, and the survival rate is lower. Myocarditis is also significantly associated with increased odds of cardiac arrest, cardiogenic shock, mechanical ventilation, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Early suspicion of myocarditis is important for prompt diagnosis and management.

Summary: This study compared the 30-day readmission rates of laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB) and laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) using a national dataset. The study found that the readmission rates were significantly higher in the LRYGB group compared to the LSG group. Factors such as age, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension, bleeding disorders, blood urea nitrogen, SGOT, alkaline phosphatase, hematocrit, and operation time were found to predict readmission rates.

Summary: This study reveals the relationship between habitual sleep duration, cardiovascular health (CVH), and their impact on healthcare costs and resource utilization. It shows that individuals with 6-8.9 hours and >= 9 hours of sleep are more likely to achieve optimal goals for diet, physical activity, body mass index, and blood pressure. Compared to those who sleep less than 6 hours, individuals with 6-8.9 hours and >= 9 hours of sleep have lower cardiovascular health risks. Furthermore, individuals with 6 or more hours of sleep have lower healthcare expenditures and reduced likelihood of emergency room visits and hospitalizations.
