Summary: The scarcity of fossil fuel and increasing environmental concerns have led to a growing need for the development of environmentally friendly and sustainable energy resources. Biodiesel, produced through transesterification of oils or fats with short-chain alcohol, is considered an optimal replacement for fossil-fuel based diesel due to its reproducible and eco-friendly properties. Among various catalysts, ionic liquids have shown potential as viable substitutes for conventional catalysts in biodiesel production. This paper provides a comprehensive review of the classification, synthetic schemes, and catalytic mechanism of basic ionic liquids, which have been less explored compared to acidic ionic liquids. The utilization of basic ionic liquids as catalysts for biodiesel preparation, along with the current challenges and prospects for future use, is also discussed.

Summary: The chemical industry needs environmentally friendly processes, as acid-catalysed processes may cause environmental problems. The search for sustainable alternatives to conventional acids is urgent. Metal-containing ionic liquids have been of great interest to scientists due to their high Lewis acidity, which depends on the composition of the ionic liquid and the specific content of metal salt. These compounds are widely used as catalysts, co-catalysts, or reaction media in various fields of chemistry, particularly in organic chemistry. Gallium(III)- and indium(III)-containing ionic liquids effectively enhance the activity of metal salts and are easier to handle. This review emphasizes the wide range of applications and the potential of metal-containing ionic liquids, with a focus on Ga(III) and In(III), which can guide further research and synthesis of new compounds in this group.

Summary: The use of N-alkyl imines in decarboxylative Mannich reaction with substituted malonic acids half oxyesters (SMAHOs) has been developed to afford a direct access to secondary beta(2,3)-aminoesters. The transformation occurs under very practical conditions (DABCO as a catalyst in bulk toluene and open to air) and can be performed with a broad range of each substrate in yields of 36 to 97 %. Importantly, the reaction was found to require the use of acidic additives in combination with the organocatalyst to limit the competitive olefination reaction.

Summary: The regulation of a large amount of CO2 in the environment is crucial to prevent environmental catastrophes, and this can be achieved through efficient carbon capture and conversion into useful chemicals. Mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) are ideal support materials for heterogeneous catalysis due to their unique characteristics. This review discusses the functionalization of MSNs, the synthesis of MSN-based catalysts, and their potential applications in CO2 fixation reactions. It highlights the design of an ideal CO2 fixation catalyst, the addition of various functionalities to MSNs, and the effects of controlling particle size distribution, active species dispersion, and interactions between active species and supports. Furthermore, this review provides an overview of the key issues, current developments, and barriers in the field of MSN-based catalysts for CO2 fixation, along with proposed research goals and viable solutions for their implementation.

Summary: In this study, a low-metal iron-supported catalyst (Fe20/NC-Mg) was reported for the efficient synthesis of quinoxaline compounds, using water as a solvent and without additional bases. The synergistic effect of FeNx site and Mg (OH)2 nanorods in the catalyst played a key role in achieving high yields (82-91%) in 16 examples. The gram-level synthesis and reusability of the catalysts after four cycles demonstrated its industrial application potential.
