Summary: Childhood-onset primary Sjogren's syndrome is characterized by sicca features, parotid enlargement, and systemic disease, with age at diagnosis influencing the phenotypic expression of the disease. Symptom presentation includes dry mouth, dry eyes, positive ANA, anti-Ro/La antibodies, and positive RF, among others.

Summary: The study found a 46% increased risk of death among pSS patients compared to the general population. Mortality risks were higher in European countries, in retrospective studies, in studies based on referral cohorts, in studies with more than 500 patients, and in studies with follow-up time longer than 8 years. Patients with older age, male gender, vasculitis, interstitial lung disease, low complements, positive anti-La/SSB, and cryoglobulinaemia had significantly greater mortality risk.

Summary: The study aimed to assess mortality trends in Poland between 2000 and 2019 among the elderly population. Data on all deaths of Polish residents aged over 65 years were analyzed. The study found that deaths due to circulatory system diseases decreased, lung and bronchus cancers accounted for the largest percentage of deaths, and there was an increasing trend in deaths due to diseases of the digestive system. The study concludes that further research is necessary to address the health burden of the aging society.

Summary: This study compared all-cause and cause-specific mortality between individuals with Parkinson's disease (PD) and those without PD. The results showed that PD was associated with a higher risk of mortality in all age groups and genders. The leading causes of death in PD were nervous system diseases, circulatory diseases, respiratory diseases, infectious diseases, and external causes.

Summary: The study revealed an independent association between fibrocystic breast disease and pSS, while mastitis and childbirth-related breast infections were not associated with pSS incidence. Additionally, positive associations were found between pSS and other reported diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, thyroid diseases, pancreatitis, bronchiectasis, infectious diseases, osteoporosis, and ankylosing spondylitis.

Summary: This study confirmed the increased risk of hematological malignancies and thyroid cancers among patients with pSS, while suggesting a lower risk of breast cancer. The lower risk of breast cancer may be related to hormonal factors, prompting further research into the role of immune surveillance within breast tissue.

Summary: This study explored the occurrence of liver fibrosis (LF) in primary Sjogren syndrome (pSS) patients in the context of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). The results showed that pSS patients had a lower prevalence of liver steatosis and significant liver fibrosis compared to the comparators. Advanced LF was significantly associated with older age, higher LS, greater BMI, and disease status, with age being identified as an independent LF risk factor.

Summary: This study compared disease characteristics between primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) patients of African ancestry and Caucasian ancestry. The results showed that patients of African ancestry had younger age at diagnosis, higher titre of gammaglobulins, higher rates of positive anti-SSA and anti-RNP antibodies, and more frequent systemic complications. Factors associated with disease activity were sub-Saharan African ancestry, rheumatoid factor, and anti-RNP positivity. In conclusion, patients of African ancestry displayed higher disease activity with increased B-cell activation.

Summary: Primary Sjogren's syndrome (pSS) is a systemic autoimmune disease characterized by dry eyes and dry mouth. B-cell hyperactivity is a key feature of the disease, leading to efforts to optimize B-cell targeted therapy. Monoclonal antibodies like rituximab (RTX) may be initiated in patients with severe, refractory systemic disease, although clinical trial data on RTX efficacy remains controversial.

Summary: This study investigated the polypharmacy and comorbidities in patients with Primary Sjogren's Syndrome (PSS) using data from the UK Primary Sjogren's Syndrome Registry. The results showed differences in comorbidities and medication use among different PSS subgroups. Age and BMI were associated with increased comorbidity and polypharmacy scores. These findings have potential implications for disease management and clinical trial design.

Summary: Sjogren's syndrome is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by lymphocyte infiltration of exocrine glands, leading to dry eye and dry mouth symptoms. Recent progress in understanding the pathogenesis of the disease has highlighted the role of the immune system in its induction and progression. The controversy over whether ocular surface involvement is a direct autoimmune target or secondary to inflammatory processes in the glands remains.

Summary: In this study, the modulation of receptor-ligand interactions in cells using magnetic nanoparticle aggregates is investigated. Summary: By using single-cell RNA sequencing analysis, this study found that B-cell response and humoral immunity play an important role in the progression and severity of COVID-19. Severe cases showed a more robust and heterogeneous plasma cell response, with the emergence of an abnormal plasma cell subset. This subset exhibited higher inflammatory features and may be a critical driver of disease severity.

Summary: This research introduces a project on designing course materials for an introduction to programming using the functional programming language Clean. Clean is believed to be a better choice for students due to its simple syntax and smaller program size compared to procedural languages. Introducing Clean in the course allows for intuitive introduction of recursive examples, which helps students understand this important concept.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate whether systematic calibration improves the scoring proficiency of JAMRIS-SIJ and whether contrast-enhancement enhances its performance. The results showed that calibrated readers achieved greater reliability in scoring specific inflammatory and structural lesions. Sensitivity and reliability for scoring inflammatory lesions were higher on fluid-sensitive sequences compared to contrast-enhanced sequences. Therefore, systematic calibration should be implemented before using JAMRIS-SIJ in clinical trials, and it is unlikely that contrast-enhanced MRI will improve the performance of this method.
