Summary: This study synthesized a near-infrared (NIR) Cys-special probe (MCyA) that could precisely and quickly detect Cys activity. The observations showed that the endogenous Cys activity was depressed under oxidative stress, but dramatically increased with omeprazole stimulation in HepG2 cells. MCyA was also successfully used to image the upregulation of Cys level in HepG2 cells in the presence of methionine (Met). Overall, MCyA is a novel and practical tool to study Cys-related physiological and pathological processes.

Summary: The micro-environment in living cells and tissues is vital for the functioning of organelles and is closely related to organelle dysfunction and disease development. However, comprehensive reviews on the organelle micro-environment in living cells and tissues are lacking, hindering the progress in the field of organic fluorescent probes. This review summarizes the development and applications of organic fluorescent probes for monitoring various micro-environments in organelles, providing insights into the understanding and study of microenvironments in cells and tissues.

Summary: This study designed and synthesized two aggregation-induced emission (AIE) fluorescence probes targeting lysosomes. By using a biocompatible polymer as a nanocarrier, the water solubility and cellular accumulation of the probes were enhanced. The fluorescent nanoprobes exhibited excellent cell permeability, biocompatibility, photostability, and specific targeting towards lysosomes in cancer cells.

Summary: Thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) materials have been considered promising candidates for time-resolved luminescence imaging (TRLI) and sensing (TRLS). However, the quenching of delayed fluorescence caused by oxygen has hindered the progress of TADF-based TRLS. This work proposed the strategy of in situ generated aggregation-induced delayed fluorescence (AIDF) for TRLS and developed a new luminophore FAc-Py and FAc-Py-Ester for functional TRLI.

Summary: A chemosensor based on pyrene monomer fluorescence with triazole groups demonstrates high selectivity in detecting Cu2+, Pb2+, and Hg2+ in organic solvents over a wide range of concentrations, even in the presence of common ions. The sensor's strongly emissive fluorescence is quenched by metal ion complex formation, leading to the formation of agglomerates. Conventional linear correlations are not observed for all concentrations, leading to the need for non-linear fits in analysis.

Summary: This study presents the use of photostable and amphiphilic carbon dots (Phe-CDs) in STED microscopy for imaging subcellular organelles. The Phe-CDs exhibit high brightness and excellent photostability, allowing for the tracking and reconstruction of the ER ultrastructure. Compared to standard microscopy, STED super-resolution imaging provides a clearer visualization of the ER network and its pores. The findings of this study demonstrate the importance of Phe-CDs in advancing the field of STED microscopy.
