Summary: This study investigated the treatment of chemical industry wastewater by coagulation combined with Fenton or photo-Fenton oxidation processes. The coagulation with PAC achieved higher wastewater treatment compared to PACS and FeCl3 coagulants, while coagulation and Fenton oxidation showed efficient wastewater treatment with high COD, TOC, turbidity, and TSS removal. The application of photo-Fenton oxidation did not bring significant changes to the treatment.

Summary: In this study, the degradation and mineralization of the drug norfloxacin (NFX) were investigated in a model solution under acidic conditions using an electrochemical process. The results showed that anodic oxidation with active chlorine (AO-HClO) outperformed other treatment methods due to the formation of refractory complexes and the conversion of HClO. Solar photoelectro-Fenton (SPEF-HClO) was the most effective method among Fenton-based treatments. The degradation sequence of NFX was proposed and several primary and stable by-products were identified.

Summary: Conventional wastewater treatment plants have a limited ability to remove recalcitrant and toxic organic pollutants. Developing powerful oxidation technologies is crucial for preserving water quality. The solar photoelectro-Fenton (SPEF) process proposed by our laboratory in 2007 has proven to be an effective and cost-efficient method for destroying common organic pollutants. This review summarizes the advances in SPEF technology up to 2022, highlighting its high oxidation power due to the simultaneous action of hydroxyl radicals and sunlight photolysis.

Summary: The treatment of Erythrosine B using electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs) like electro-Fenton, UVA photoelectro-Fenton, and solar photoelectro-Fenton was studied. Irradiation was found to be crucial in increasing hydroxyl radical production and in the recover of iron catalyst, leading to faster color and COD removal degradation under light application. The UVA photoelectro-Fenton process with a 100W lamp showed the best removal performance but high energy demand, while the solar photoelectro-Fenton system had the lowest and competitive energy demands with complete removal.

Summary: In this study, different chemical species were used to treat poultry slaughterhouse wastewater under UV-C light. The combination of UV with 15mM of K2S2O8 resulted in the highest TOC removal efficiency and the lowest electric energy per order. The UV/K2S2O8 process could be used as a post-treatment after biological treatment to meet discharge water standards and reuse the wastewater.

Summary: In this study, the mucilage of Aloe vera was used as a new auxiliary coagulant for the pre-treatment of textile effluents. The combination of coagulants showed better performance in removing turbidity, COD, DOC, and NOM compared to single inorganic coagulants. After coagulation-flocculation, a photo-Fenton process was used to degrade and mineralize dissolved organic compounds, resulting in the reduction of COD, DOC, and NOM. The toxicity of the treated samples was evaluated using three organisms, and the results showed that the treated samples were non-toxic to two of the organisms.

Summary: Advanced oxidation processes have been widely studied for their effectiveness in removing biorefractory pollutants from wastewater. However, there is a lack of suitable methods to compare the performance of different AOPs. This paper proposes a novel criterion, the accumulated oxygen-equivalent chemical-oxidation dose (AOCD), to systematically compare diverse AOPs.

Summary: This paper provides a comprehensive review of the application of Fenton technologies in the removal of PCT from natural waters, synthetic wastewaters, and real wastewaters. The characteristics and results of Fenton, photo-Fenton, electro-Fenton, and photoelectro-Fenton are described, with an emphasis on the oxidative action of reactive oxygen species. The paper also analyzes hybrid processes, sequential treatments, and compares the results with other available AOPs. Additionally, the paper reports on the by-products and degradation pathways observed during the removal of PCT by Fenton and Fenton-based processes.

Summary: The study aimed at treating textile wastewater using Electro-coagulation and Electro-Fenton processes. Results showed 100% effluent discoloration and 80% and 85% COD degradation, along with similar TOC degradation effects. The use of air sparging helped to minimize electrode wear and extend their lifetimes.
