Summary: Due to its medical and pharmaceutical importance, honey bee venom has been well studied, but our understanding of its composition and antimicrobial properties is still incomplete. In this study, the volatile and extractive components of dry and fresh bee venom were analyzed, and their antimicrobial activity against different pathogens was tested. The results showed that bee venom contains many new organic compounds and has strong inhibitory effects on Gram-positive bacteria, suggesting that its antimicrobial activity is not only attributed to peptides like melittin, but also low molecular weight metabolites.

BV also increased total antioxidant capacity and levels of antioxidative enzymes and immunoglobulins while decreasing oxidative stress markers. The results suggest that BV can be an effective and safe alternative for enhancing reproductive traits, immune response, and health in rabbit farming.

Summary: Based on a systematic review, it is unlikely that cross-contamination of major food allergens below 0.5 mg/100 g will endanger most food allergic patients when consuming a standard portion of food. The suggestion is to use a voluntary declaration on processed food packages stating that the product contains named allergens and may contain traces of other contaminations at concentrations less than 0.5 mg per 100 g of the product, which can be technically achieved in most processed foods. Further research on threshold levels is encouraged for a legally binding solution in the future.

Summary: Acute Localized Exanthematous Pustulosis (ALEP) is a rare skin reaction characterized by the sudden onset of multiple, small, sterile, non-follicular pustules in an erythematous and edematous base succeeding systemic drug administration. ALEP is considered a subtype of Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP), although the exact pathogenic mechanism of the disease remains poorly defined. Numerous drugs have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ALEP, while contact mechanisms have also been reported. Identifying new agents-including minoxidil-which serve as inducers of drug-specific T-cell-mediated responses in the clinical spectrum of ALEP, adds further value in understanding the complex, yet unknown, pathophysiological mechanisms of this rare drug hypersensitivity reaction.
