Summary: This paper provides the first theoretical analysis of coherence-based imaging systems with speckle or multiplicative noise. It characterizes the log-likelihood function and proposes a compression-based maximum likelihood recovery method. The research shows that accurate recovery of a signal is still feasible even in the presence of speckle noise and under-determined measurements.

Summary: The role of cultural distance in exports lacks consensus, with studies showing that the positive or negative effects are attributed to substitution or complementary effects through trade costs and preferences. Using export data from China and the US with 97 trading partners, it was found that cultural distance hinders exports for both countries through trade costs and preference channels, specifically in traditional vs. secular-rational values and survival vs. self-expression values dimensions. Additionally, different factors such as differentiated products, continental variations, and trading partners' economic development levels have varying effects on the exports of China and the US.

Summary: This study contributes to the literature by examining the relationship between corporate accountability in species protection and factors affecting such accountability. Results show positive relations between ecologically conscious companies and external assurance, environmental performance, partnerships with socially responsible organizations, and awards for sustainable activities. The findings are robust and can guide policymakers and stakeholders in making better decisions in responding to environmental challenges.

Summary: This paper examines likelihood inference in structural vector autoregressions with independent non-Gaussian shocks, finding that there may be inconsistencies in parameter estimation under distributional misspecification. We demonstrate that autoregressive coefficients and (scaled) impact multipliers remain consistent, but the drifts and shocks' standard deviations are generally inconsistent. However, we establish consistency when using a discrete scale mixture of normals or an unrestricted finite mixture in the non-Gaussian log-likelihood, and compare the efficiency of these estimators with other consistent two-step proposals, including our own. Finally, our empirical application investigates dynamic linkages between three popular volatility indices.

Summary: The Liu estimator is introduced to tackle the issue of multicollinearity in Poisson regression model by utilizing bootstrap technique. This article proposes new Poisson bootstrap Liu and ridge estimators and compares them with the non-bootstrap Liu and ridge estimators. The simulation study shows that the proposed estimators demonstrate better efficiency compared to existing estimators. Additionally, a real example is used to illustrate the application of the proposed estimators.

Summary: The Kyoto Protocol increased international bilateral trade in the climate change industry, while the Montreal Protocol had the opposite effect. The impact of environmental stringency on international bilateral trade in climate-related industries was negative and significant, refuting the Porter Hypothesis.

Summary: This article proposes a nonuniform subsampling method based on Poisson subsampling to address the computational burden issue for massive data. The optimal subsampling probabilities are derived under the quasi-likelihood estimation and their consistency and asymptotic normality are established. A distributed subsampling framework is also developed for handling data stored in different locations. The effectiveness of the proposed methods is demonstrated through numerical experiments on simulated and real datasets.

Summary: Theory-consistent ('structural') gravity models are commonly used for bilateral trade modeling. The Poisson Pseudo-Maximum Likelihood (PPML) estimator is often used in simulations and performs well, except in cases with noisy data. This study finds that PPML exhibits a bias of 4% rather than the previously reported 27% when considering a more realistic error variance assumption.

Summary: This study examines the domestic air cargo traffic within Turkey and compares the OLS and PPML methods using gravity model. The results show that variables such as GDP per capita, population, and distance have significant effects on air cargo amount. The study also highlights the bias caused by different effects of departure and arrival cities on the explanatory variable coefficients.

Summary: This paper introduces a new estimation method that can better handle models for counts and nonnegative variables, demonstrating its superiority through simulation studies and empirical examples. Results show spatial dependence between regions and the significant impact of the socioeconomic environment on knowledge production.

Summary: The objective of this paper is to use the gravity model to estimate Turkey's international air cargo traffic. The study compares the estimation results of the PPML estimator and the OLS estimator, and further compares the PPML estimator with two different approaches employing the OLS estimator. The findings show that the PPML estimator outperforms the OLS estimator in estimating the gravity model, and other variables in the model have a positive effect on Turkey's international cargo traffic, except for the distance variable.

Summary: Negative foreign direct investment (divestment) between countries has received little attention in international macroeconomics. This is the first country-level study to investigate whether conventional drivers of bilateral foreign direct investment (FDI) have a reverse, but symmetric, impact on foreign direct divestment (FDD).

Summary: This paper explores both unrestricted and restricted Liu estimators in the context of multicollinearity in the Poisson regression model, introducing new estimators for the shrinkage parameter. Through simulation and empirical application, it is found that the restricted estimator outperforms the unrestricted one, with the restricted Liu estimator showing superior performance to both the unrestricted Liu and restricted Liu estimators. This new method is therefore preferred when the coefficient vector may belong to a linear sub-space.
