Summary: This article explores the educational resources, methods, and curriculum used in the education of undergraduate health students related to lactation through a scoping review. The findings suggest that best practice standards are used for educational resources, methods, curricular approaches, and foundational topics. However, despite improvement in knowledge and skill, there is still a lack of change in students' confidence. It is important to ensure consistency and improvement in teaching across disciplines.

Summary: This study investigates the relationship between the differing prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in males and females and the underlying biological mechanisms. The results demonstrate that genetic risk genes have an impact on functional brain connectivity in boys, but not in girls, providing further support for the hypothesis of a female protective effect.

Summary: The study found that compared to healthy peers, children with autism spectrum disorder have more feeding problems in early infancy, including shortened breastfeeding time, delayed introduction of dairy products, needing more trials to introduce new foods, delayed introduction of solid and lumpy foods, longer duration of bottle feeding, delayed attempts to eat using own hands, and needing greater parental support to divert their attention from food during eating.

Summary: It is known that nutrition during pregnancy and lactation can influence the microbiome of breast milk and the infant gut microbiome, but the extent of the impact of maternal diet on these microbiomes is still not fully understood. To explore the associations between maternal diet and the breast milk and infant gut microbiomes, a comprehensive review of published literature was conducted. The review included cohort studies, randomized clinical trials, and a few other types of studies, with a total of 19 reports analyzed. While some studies supported the importance of a varied, nutrient-dense maternal diet in shaping the infant gut microbiome, others found that factors other than maternal diet had a greater impact.

Summary: This study found that patients with psychosis have poor dietary quality, low physical activity levels, and spend significant time sitting. Negative symptoms were associated with lower levels of physical activity and increased sedentary behavior. These findings highlight the importance of multidisciplinary lifestyle interventions targeted at improving eating habits and promoting physical activity among individuals with psychosis.

Summary: Brain atrophy, a decrease in brain volume, is associated with cognitive health in older adults. Insufficient moderate and vigorous physical activity (MVPA) has been linked to lower brain volume. This study found that meeting weekly MVPA recommendations helps preserve the volume of over 30 brain areas and structures in older adults. Additionally, cardiorespiratory fitness is an important predictor of brain volume preservation.

Summary: This study aims to provide clinicians with evidence-based recommendations and implementation considerations for lifestyle-based mental health care for adults with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). The study conducted systematic literature searches and formed nine recommendations, including physical activity, relaxation techniques, work-directed interventions, sleep, and mindfulness-based therapies. The study also emphasized the importance of implementing this approach with input from allied health professionals and support networks, and delivering interventions using a biopsychosocial-cultural framework.

The findings show that online training had better efficacy for social workers and occupational therapists, and potential efficacy for nurses. Therefore, online training is important for mental healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic and may be incorporated into regular training courses in the future.

Summary: Controversy exists regarding the benefits of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and antidepressants for women experiencing depressive symptoms during or after menopause. A network meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) showed that fluoxetine plus oral HRT was associated with the largest improvement in depressive symptoms compared to placebos in menopausal women, particularly those with a definite diagnosis of depression. However, no pharmacological or hormone replacement therapy was better than placebo in post-menopausal women or those without a depression diagnosis. This study provides evidence supporting the use of fluoxetine plus HRT for menopausal women with depression.

Summary: This study investigated the factors associated with the recording of HbA1c in individuals with first diagnoses of serious mental illness (SMI) and the factors associated with HbA1c levels when recorded. The study found a relatively low level of HbA1c recording, though it has increased over time, and text extraction has improved diagnostic accuracy. Therefore, it is important to improve routine monitoring of dysglycaemia in these high-risk disorders.
