Summary: Infective endocarditis is a life-threatening disease that requires surgical treatment in approximately half of the patients. The timing of surgery is crucial and the role of the endocarditis team in managing systemic complications is emphasized. Complications such as neurological complications, acute renal failure, and infections caused by resistant microorganisms or fungi can affect long-term prognosis and survival. Proper pre-operative planning and management of unexpected obstacles during surgery are essential.

Summary: The renin-angiotensin system (RAS) plays a crucial role in cardiovascular physiology, and emerging research shows its significant impact in oncology, intensive care medicine, and solid organ transplantation. The complex direct and indirect interactions of RAS with immunomodulatory pathways highlight the need for further research in this field.

Summary: Following updates to the WHO pathological criteria, all major neuro-oncology societies in North America and Europe now advocate for maximal safe resection as the initial management for diffuse gliomas. Surgical plans for both low- and high-grade gliomas should aim to achieve supramaximal resection based on preoperative imaging and the patient's performance status, with preservation of functional cortical and subcortical regions. This summary statement highlights the tools and technologies that facilitate safe removal of diffuse gliomas, along with management strategies to minimize complications and the potential for further biological discoveries and improved delivery of adjuvant therapies.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) necessitates a multidisciplinary evaluation for personalized treatment. Liver resection and transplantation are the main curative treatment options, but disease recurrence remains a burden. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) have shown promising results in palliative care. However, neoadjuvant ICI therapy is not recommended due to lack of evidence from large Phase III trials. The risk of allograft rejection is a major concern in the context of liver transplantation.

Summary: Modern cancer therapies have led to an increase in cancer survivors, but these treatments also come with the risk of cardiovascular disorders. Prompt detection and treatment of these complications are crucial for healthy survivorship and reducing cardiovascular morbidity. Advanced multimodality imaging is an important tool for assessing patient risk, identifying cardiovascular toxicity, and predicting recovery.

Summary: The 2021 World Health Organization Classification of Tumors of the Central Nervous System introduced the H3.3-G34R/V mutant glioma alongside the already recognized H3-K27M altered glioma, reflecting advances in understanding the roles of oncohistones in gliomagenesis. However, the prognosis remains poor for patients with these disease entities and the H3.3-G34R/V mutant gliomas are particularly understudied. Further research is needed to explore the molecular mechanisms underlying gliomagenesis and develop effective diagnosis, treatment, and future therapeutics.

Summary: This study assessed the quality of life (QOL) for adults diagnosed with lower grade glioma (LGG). The results showed that these patients had reduced physical, emotional, and mental health functioning compared to individuals with nonmalignant brain tumors and the general population. This highlights the importance of acknowledging and managing these symptoms to improve the QOL of young patients diagnosed with LGG.

Summary: Gliomas infiltrating the corpus callosum (G-I-CC) can significantly impact patients' quality of life, but maximally safe tumor resection is challenging. A systematic review of the literature on G-I-CC revealed that surgical resection can significantly improve survival and reduce the risk of persistent complications.

Summary: Precision medicine has revolutionized cancer treatment by introducing targeted therapies, improving overall survival rates. Oral molecular targeted antineoplastic agents offer enhanced patient convenience and reduced risk of adverse effects, however, cardiovascular toxicities are becoming more prevalent and require focused monitoring and management to optimize patient outcomes.
