Summary: This study demonstrated that Wedelolactone (WDL) enhanced the killing ability of NK92-MI cells by upregulating the expression of perforin and granzyme B through the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. Additionally, WDL induced the migration of NK-92MI cells by promoting CCR7 and CXCR4 expressions. However, the application of WDL is limited due to poor solubility and bioavailability. Therefore, Ligustri Lucidi Fructus polysaccharides (LLFPs) were investigated for their impact on WDL, which improved its biopharmaceutical properties and pharmacokinetic characteristics, ultimately enhancing its bioavailability.

Summary: The study found that the aqueous extract of Fructus Ligustri Lucidi (FLL) can preserve bone quality in ovariectomized (OVX) rats by regulating calcium balance and intestinal short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) production. This suggests potential translational value of FLL in clinical trials for osteoporosis.

Summary: This review examines the botany, traditional uses, processing, phytochemistry, quality control, pharmacology, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (LLF) to better understand its therapeutic potential. Multiple chemical components have been identified in LLF, mainly including terpenoids and flavonoids. Modern studies have shown that LLF extracts and compounds have a wide range of pharmacological effects, including antitumor, liver protection, blood glucose and lipid-lowering, and immune regulation.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus on chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression. The results showed that Ligustri Lucidi Fructus could increase white blood cell and bone marrow nucleated cell counts, while reducing the levels of granulocyte-macrophage-colony stimulating factor and thrombopoietin in myelosuppression mice. It was also found that Ligustri Lucidi Fructus could regulate the balance of bcl-2/bax and inhibit Caspase-3 expression, while stimulating MEK and p-ERK expression on the MAPK pathway. Chemical analysis revealed the presence of several components in Ligustri Lucidi Fructus that may be related to myelosuppression. These findings suggest that Ligustri Lucidi Fructus could be a promising drug for the treatment of chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression.

Summary: A research strategy was proposed to reveal the chemical changes during wine steaming processing of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus. It was found that iridoid and phenylethanoid esters were readily hydrolyzed during this processing, while organic acids, flavonoids, and triterpenes remained stable. This study indicated a potential method to investigate chemical changes in herbs during processing.

Summary: The study aimed to compare the effects of Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (LLF) and wine-steamed Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (WLL) extracts on diabetic nephropathy (DN) rats in terms of pharmacodynamics, pharmacokinetics, and kidney distribution. LLF and WLL extracts exhibited anti-diabetic nephropathy effects by reducing blood glucose, serum creatinine, blood urea nitrogen, and urinary protein levels, as well as improving lipid profiles and decreasing pro-inflammatory cytokine levels in DN rats. The WLL extract showed a better anti-diabetic nephropathy effect than the LLF extract. In terms of pharmacokinetics and kidney tissue distribution, there were significant differences in the concentrations of eight ingredients between LLF and WLL extracts in DN rats. These findings provide a rationale for the clinical application and processing mechanism of LLF.

Summary: This study aimed to explore the synergy of Epimedii Folium and Ligustri Lucidi Fructus (ELL) with dexamethasone (Dex) in the proliferation, apoptosis, and autophagy of airway smooth muscle cells (ASMCs). The results of the study suggest that ELL combined with Dex may regulate the proliferation of ASMCs by promoting apoptosis and autophagy and be a potential medicine for the treatment of asthma.
