Summary: Perinatal nutrition plays a crucial role in the developmental origins of health and disease. Metabolomics is a valuable tool for studying the impact of perinatal nutrition on both mothers and newborns. This review focuses on the main metabolites associated with gestational diabetes, intrauterine growth restriction, and breast milk.

Summary: Strategy scholars often tackle complex global social and environmental issues by optimizing organizational success, but this approach divorces firms from the social-ecological context that makes these problems wicked. This essay argues that strategy research into wicked problems can benefit from systems thinking, which involves investigating co-evolutionary dynamics, advancing processual insights, and recognizing tipping points and transformative change.

Summary: The study focused on describing the types, tissues of origin, and development of prickles in roses, proposing the first categorization of prickles in the Rosa genus. The research showed that non-glandular prickles and glandular prickles both originate from multiple cells of the ground meristem beneath the protoderm.

Summary: This study aims to identify the key constructs involved in addressing wicked problems and develop a conceptual model on how to address these problems. The findings indicate that it is essential to first identify the problem as wicked when addressing wicked problems. Collaboration, leadership, perspectives, and innovation are identified as key constructs for addressing wicked problems.

Summary: This study explores the link between social and biophysical aspects in a community forestry project in Papua New Guinea. It emphasizes the importance of social aspects in project outcomes and introduces the concept of 'tame', 'complex', and 'wicked' problems to explain the compromises and trade-offs required to accommodate the social context. Through a case study, it is shown that clan power structures and traditional customs constrain project activities, leading to various solutions and compromises. The concept of wicked problems is proposed as a valuable framework for addressing social aspects in community forestry projects.

Summary: In this study, a holistic approach using big data from milk recording was proposed to assess dairy cow health status. By analyzing the data with unsupervised learning algorithms and validating the results, the study showed the potential to monitor dairy cows on a large scale and detect health disorders.

Summary: Philosophical theories of causation are often judged based on their ability to determine causal relations in clear example scenarios, but the author argues that this method is illusory and that judging the reductiveness of causal analysis can only occur after answering most philosophical questions. Rejecting the methodological supremacy of this approach leads to a more pluralistic method of evaluating theories of causation, benefiting non-standard approaches like interventionism and agency theories.

Summary: This paper uses grounded theory and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to explore the use of multiple management decision tools in dealing with organizational wicked problems. The research identifies six theoretical dimensions as management decision tools and proposes three heuristic toolkits. The findings provide a holistic perspective and a reference for organizations facing similar situations in future practice.

Summary: This study found that a significant number of oil and gas wells in several US states exhibit compromised integrity, with particular concern in Pennsylvania where 14.1% of wells tested prior to 2018 showed signs of issues. Data from different regions in Colorado and New Mexico demonstrated a wider range of SCP and/or CVF occurrences compared to previous reports, emphasizing the need for a better understanding of regional well integrity trends. Additionally, directional wells were more likely to exhibit SCP and/or CVF than vertical wells, with their installation corresponding to statewide increases in compromised well integrity in Colorado and Pennsylvania.

Summary: This paper investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility (CSR) and firm performance, arguing that CSR might improve firm performance by reducing agency costs. A model is constructed based on behavioral agency theory to show how CSR moderates the impact of agency problems on specific firm outcomes, with findings from panel data of publicly traded U.S. firms supporting the model and suggesting the potential role of CSR in enhancing corporate governance efficiency.

Summary: This article discusses the role of evolution in consciousness theories and addresses the problem of assessing the applicability of consciousness theories to other taxa and evolutionary time. A consciousness machine is used as a conceptual device to explore the relationship between ontology, evolution, and the emergence of distinguishable contents in consciousness. The article also examines the link between consciousness and behavior, as well as the acquisition of agency. Recasting the problem in developmental terms highlights the importance of real-time feedback mechanisms in transferring agency from evolution to the individual.

Summary: Land governance deals with access, use, and interest in land and its resources. Path dependence can lead to unsustainable land control. Social-ecological and socio-technical insights can help analyze the transformation process in land governance. Change in land governance emerges when certain triggers destabilize the incumbent system.
