Long-term outcomes following endovascular and surgical revascularization for peripheral artery disease: a propensity score-matched analysis

Summary: This retrospective cohort study compared the long-term outcomes of endovascular and surgical revascularization in PAD patients and found that although endovascular revascularization can reduce the risk of MALE, it is associated with higher mortality. Surgical revascularization has lower long-term mortality, which contradicts previous studies and highlights the controversy in this field.

Haploidentical transplants deliver equal outcomes to matched sibling transplants: a propensity score-matched analysis

Summary: A post-hoc analysis of a prospective clinical trial compared outcomes of haploidentical donor (HID) vs. matched sibling donor (MSD) peripheral blood stem cell transplants in patients with hematologic malignancies. The study found that overall survival, relapse-free survival, non-relapse mortality rate, and relapse incidence were similar between HID and MSD cohorts. Subgroup analysis suggested that patients with positive measurable residual disease in first complete remission may have better overall survival with an HID transplant. The study concluded that HID transplants can provide outcomes comparable to MSD transplants and should be recommended for patients with positive measurable residual disease in first complete remission.

Robotic versus laparoscopic hepatectomy: A single-center, propensity score- matched study

Very long versus overlapping drug eluting stents for the management of long coronary artery lesions

The impact of first wave of the SARS-CoV-2 2019 pandemic in Poland on characteristics and outcomes of patients hospitalized due to stable coronary artery disease

Summary: This study investigated the baseline characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of stable coronary disease patients after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A comparison was made with patients from the same period in 2019. The results showed that the number of hospitalized stable patients decreased after the lockdown, they were younger and had more comorbidities, and there were changes in treatment, but no significant differences in hospitalization outcomes. The higher prevalence of comorbidities raises concerns for the future.

Summary: Telerehabilitation (TR) was developed to overcome geographical barriers and staff deficiencies in delivering rehabilitation services, especially during crisis situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been shown to have similar clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional rehabilitation, but also has limitations such as lack of direct contact and patient competencies in handling mobile devices. This article discusses the current status of TR, with a focus on cardiac rehabilitation, covering technical/organizational and legal aspects, indications, cost-effectiveness, and future directions.

Incidence and course of acute coronary syndrome cases after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on cardiovascular disease patients, particularly those with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Lockdown measures have led to treatment-related concerns and reluctance to seek medical help, resulting in delayed treatment. Analysis of ACS incidence and course after the first wave of COVID-19 showed an increase in cardiovascular risk factors among patients, as well as changes in treatment modalities and an increased risk of mortality.
