Nanospheres encapsulated everolimus delivery into arterial wall-the tissue pharmacokinetics and vascular response experimental study

Krzysztof Milewski, Anna Bryla-Wojciechowska, Piotr P. Buszman, Katarzyna Jelonek, Mateusz Kachel, Pawel Gasior, Agata Krauze, Aleksandra Blachut, Monika Musial-Kulik, Armando Tellez, Serge D. Rousselle, R. Stefan Kiesz, Janusz Kasperczyk, Pawel E. Buszman

Summary: This study evaluated the pharmacokinetic profile and tissue effects of everolimus delivered into arterial wall using biodegradable nanospheres. The results showed high-everolimus concentrations in arterial tissue early after nanoparticles delivery, gradually decreasing over time, with favorable biocompatibility and healing profile demonstrated in the study.

Clinical Implications of Poststent Optical Coherence Tomographic Findings Severe Malapposition and Cardiac Events

Byung Gyu Kim, Mateusz Kachel, Jung-Sun Kim, Giulio Guagliumi, Choongki Kim, In-Soo Kim, Yong-Joon Lee, Oh-Hyun Lee, Young Sup Byun, Byung Ok Kim, Krzysztof Milewski, Seung-Jun Lee, Sung-Jin Hong, Chul-Min Ahn, Dong-Ho Shin, Byeong-Keuk Kim, Young-Guk Ko, Donghoon Choi, Yangsoo Jang

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of poststent optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings on long-term clinical outcomes. Although most OCT findings were not associated with clinical outcomes, a smaller minimal stent area was related to device-oriented clinical endpoints, while significant malapposition was associated with major safety events.

The impact of first wave of the SARS-CoV-2 2019 pandemic in Poland on characteristics and outcomes of patients hospitalized due to stable coronary artery disease

Justyna Jankowska-Sanetra, Krzysztof Sanetra, Marta Konopko, Monika Kutowicz, Magdalena Synak, Krzysztof Milewski, Pawel Kazmierczak, Lukasz Koltowski, Piotr Pawel Buszman

Summary: This study investigated the baseline characteristics, treatment, and outcomes of stable coronary disease patients after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. A comparison was made with patients from the same period in 2019. The results showed that the number of hospitalized stable patients decreased after the lockdown, they were younger and had more comorbidities, and there were changes in treatment, but no significant differences in hospitalization outcomes. The higher prevalence of comorbidities raises concerns for the future.

Summary: Telerehabilitation (TR) was developed to overcome geographical barriers and staff deficiencies in delivering rehabilitation services, especially during crisis situations like the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been shown to have similar clinical outcomes and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional rehabilitation, but also has limitations such as lack of direct contact and patient competencies in handling mobile devices. This article discusses the current status of TR, with a focus on cardiac rehabilitation, covering technical/organizational and legal aspects, indications, cost-effectiveness, and future directions.

Incidence and course of acute coronary syndrome cases after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic

Justyna Jankowska-Sanetra, Krzysztof Sanetra, Marta Konopko, Monika Kutowicz, Magdalena Synak, Pawel Kazmierczak, Krzysztof Milewski, Lukasz Koltowski, Piotr Pawel Buszman

Summary: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on cardiovascular disease patients, particularly those with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Lockdown measures have led to treatment-related concerns and reluctance to seek medical help, resulting in delayed treatment. Analysis of ACS incidence and course after the first wave of COVID-19 showed an increase in cardiovascular risk factors among patients, as well as changes in treatment modalities and an increased risk of mortality.
