Summary: This study isolated twelve hyper-beta carotene-producing strains of algae belonging to the genus Dunaliella salina from various hypersaline environments. Phylogenetic analysis revealed the need for clarification on the taxonomy of Dunaliella salina, leading to the proposal of dividing D. salina into four sub-clades based on a robust phylogeny. The study demonstrates the considerable genetic diversity within D. salina and highlights the potential of genetic analyses in selecting economically important strains.

Summary: This study introduces an automated pipeline for creating a continuously updated fern tree of life (FTOL) using DNA sequence data from GenBank. The pipeline combines whole plastomes and commonly sequenced plastid regions to obtain a high-resolution global fern phylogeny. By resolving synonyms using a curated reference taxonomy, the FTOL includes about 40% more species than previous global fern phylogenies. The FTOL and its associated datasets are available through a web portal and R packages, providing immediate access to the most up-to-date and comprehensive fern phylogeny.

Summary: By screening DNA from 285 coralline crusts in Canada and adjacent waters, the distribution range of Porphyra corallicola was found to be far beyond previous knowledge. In addition, it was found that other species also exist only in the Conchocelis stage. The further development of this method will facilitate the study of Conchocelis stages in nature, greatly enhancing ecological knowledge of bangialean species.
