Vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) nanofibers were synthesized by hydrothermal technique. Field emission properties of tapered V2O5 nanofibers have been explored. Low turn-on voltage of 990 V was found for the emission current of 0.1 mu A. Maximum emission current of 30 mu A was drawn at an applied voltage of 2 kV. Stable emission current was recorded for the entire duration of measurement at the preset of 1 mu A emission current. To the best of our knowledge this is the first report on field emission studies of tapered V2O5 nanofibers. Better field emission properties indicate the possible use of tapered V2O5 nanofibers for micro/nanoelectronic devices.
