CuO nanoparticles were synthesized by environmentally benign green route with copper acetate precursor using Caloropis procera leaf extract. The CuO nanoparticles produced by the process after calcination at 700 degrees C were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and the pattern reveals monoclinic structure. The cylindrical shape of CuO nanoparticles were observed by scanning electron microscopy. FT-IR spectra confirmed the adsorption of surfactant molecules at the surface of CuO nanoparticles and presence of Cu-O bonding. Thermal studies were carried out by thermogravimetric and deferential thermal analysis techniques. Raman spectra, is used to explore the local atomic arrangements and vibrations of CuO nanoparticles. In addition, UV-Visible spectra were used to estimate the band gap energy of CuO nanoparticles. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
