Summary: A numerical simulation method was developed to study the polymerization of OSA and the formation of SiO2 nanoparticles in hydrothermal solution. The results showed that temperature, pH, initial concentration, and ionic strength were important parameters that affected particle formation. The simulation results were validated with experimental data, providing guidance for controlling the product properties.

Summary: Three series of thermo- and/or pH-responsive polymer-grafted SiO2 nanoparticles were prepared by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization. Different polymer grafts have different effects on the properties of the nanoparticles, such as LCST, hydrodynamic diameter, and zeta potential.

Summary: This paper introduces a hydrophobic nano-silica for strengthening the wellbore wall when using a water-based drilling fluid. The wellbore-strengthening performance and mechanism were studied through a series of experiments and characterization analysis. The experimental results showed that the hydrophobic nano-silica exhibited good performance in inhibiting shale swelling and dispersion, improving wellbore stability, and outperforming commonly used shale inhibitors. The wellbore-strengthening effect can be attributed to mechanisms such as charge balance, surface structure modification, and pore plugging.

Summary: A flexible SERS sensing platform was developed to monitor the concentration of benzotriazole in water. The platform showed high sensitivity with a detection limit of 0.01 nmol L-1 and excellent repeatability and reproducibility. This research is important for real-time monitoring of trace benzotriazole in tap water.

Summary: This study investigated the potential of magnetic fluorescence hybrid nanoparticles for simultaneous detection and removal of Cu(II) ions and RhB dye degradation. The nanoparticles showed selective adsorption of Cu(II) ions and efficient degradation of RhB under UV light. The Langmuir isotherm model fit the adsorption data well, and the adsorption process was found to be endothermic, favorable, and spontaneous.

Summary: A PVDF-CTFE/SiO2 nanofibrous membrane with micro and nano-rough structure was prepared by electrospinning, and the addition of 2.5 wt% SiO2 increased the water contact angle to 151.3 degrees, exhibiting superhydrophobicity. The nanofibrous membrane exhibited excellent separation performance (>99%) for water-in-oil mixtures and emulsions, as well as superior multi-cycle performance and consistent chemical resistance.

Summary: A finite element model was developed to assess the interaction of internal and external defects on pipelines. It was found that external defects have higher maximum stress than internal defects, and pipelines with only external defects require a larger longitudinal spacing before interaction occurs.
