Summary: This study investigated current dental practice in operative dentistry in Jordan and explored the relationship between evidence-based dentistry in caries research and decision-making in clinical practice. The findings showed that evidence-based research is not implemented clinically and suggested the need for constant updates and modifications to dental curriculum to optimize the relationship between evidence-based dentistry and clinical decision-making.

Summary: This study aimed to enhance the adhesion of fluoride varnish (FV) to the enamel surface using cold plasma technology. The results showed that the use of argon and air plasma significantly damaged the hexagonal structures of enamel, while helium plasma only altered the structures from convex to concave. Additionally, cold plasma treatment increased the calcium to phosphorus ratio and the uptake of fluoride and sodium on the enamel surface, helping to restore the damaged enamel. However, there was no significant change in the release of fluoride ions from the FV.

Summary: Nanomaterials have increasingly been used in dentistry, particularly in endodontic procedures, due to their unique characteristics and antibacterial properties. Research has shown that nanoparticles are more efficient than traditional materials and have superior surface chemistry and bonding properties, making them promising tools in various dental treatments. Their versatility in applications and advantages over conventional materials highlight the potential for continued advancement in the field of dental medicine.

Summary: This paper describes the development of innovative amorphous calcium magnesium fluoride phosphate (ACMFP) core-shell microparticles for preventive dentistry. The particles contain varied fluoride content and can be converted to fluoride-substituted hydroxyapatite or fluorapatite. In vitro evaluation shows that the ACMFP particles can effectively remineralize acid-etched dentin specimens and reduce dentin hypersensitivity by forming a dense mineralization layer. The particles provide a reliable source of calcium, phosphate, and fluoride ions for caries prevention and dentin tubule occlusion.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic review on the effect of different cavity disinfectants on restorations' adhesion and clinical success. Chlorhexidine was found to preserve adhesion to dentin, while EDTA and ethanol had positive results that should be further confirmed. The study also highlighted the importance of avoiding the use of disinfectants lacking scientific evidence, such as lasers or fluoridated agents, for cavity disinfection.

Summary: This study evaluated the complexity of root canal treatments accepted for treatment by postgraduate training grades at Cardiff University Dental Hospital using different scoring systems. The results showed that the complexity level varied when evaluated using different systems. Factors such as endodontic treatment history, post treatment disease, and quality of root filling contributed to the differences in scores among the systems.

Summary: The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of proximal microinvasive sealing on the risk for caries lesion development after 5 years. The results showed that sealing had a significant effect in reducing caries lesions on sound 6m surfaces. Both preventive and therapeutic sealants were effective in caries reduction in high caries risk children. The beneficial effect of sealing can be observed for at least 5 years after a single sealant treatment.

Summary: Endodontic therapy aims to preserve teeth by preventing and treating apical disease. Traditional treatment outcome reporting focuses on clinician-reported outcomes (CROs), while patient-reported outcomes (PROs) are less commonly employed. This lack of consensus in outcome reporting leads to heterogeneity, which hinders meta-analysis, guidelines development, and clinical decision making. The establishment of a core outcome set (COS) in endodontics can reduce these effects.

Summary: The study aimed to use a self-etch adhesive doped with nano-bioglass and evaluated its ability to bond and re-mineralize artificially demineralized dentin. The addition of nano-bioglass particles altered some properties of the adhesive, but the remineralization process successfully recovered some properties of the dentin.

Summary: This article reviews the survival of teeth after root canal treatment and focuses on the factors that affect tooth survival. The study found that tooth restoration is the most important factor associated with the success of root canal treatment. Indirect restorations were found to have a higher survival rate compared to direct restorations.

Summary: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of additional treatment or extraction following orthograde root canal treatment (RCT) performed by general dental practitioners. A cohort of 280 individuals with orthograde RCT was followed for 10 years. The results showed a cumulative 10-year survival rate of 92.7% for RCTs, with a higher incidence within the first 2 years. Five factors were associated with an unfavorable outcome, but confounders could not be ruled out.

Summary: Frequent intake of free sugars can cause dental caries, but the immediate effect of sugar intake on the supragingival microbiota is still unknown. This study aims to explore the impact of 14 days of sugar rinsing on the supragingival microbiota. The results show that temporary sugar stress can lead to a loss of diversity and compositional changes in the supragingival microbiota, but these changes can be reversed with oral care.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effect of daily consumption of a lozenge combining arginine and probiotics on the Relative Risk Reduction (RRR) of dental caries transitions and lesion activity in children. The intervention group received the lozenge containing arginine and probiotics while the placebo group received a placebo lozenge. The results showed a significant reduction in caries progression, increase in regression, and decrease in active caries lesions in the intervention group compared to the placebo group. Overall, the combined use of arginine and probiotics could be a promising approach for caries prevention and control.

Summary: The National Child Odontology Registry in Denmark has collected data on the oral health of Danish children and adolescents since 1972. This study provides an overview of the registry's history and the changes in registration criteria for dental variables over time. It also highlights the prevalence of gingivitis and periodontitis following changes in registration criteria and suggests the need for further research in reporting accuracy. It concludes that the registry offers a unique opportunity for studying childhood oral health but recommends consulting with experts for the best use of the available data.

Summary: The present study aimed to investigate whether probiotics can protect against experimental gingivitis caused by neglecting oral hygiene for 14 days and support the restoration of oral homeostasis afterwards. The results suggest that probiotics play a role in maintaining the resilience of the oral microbiota during the resolution period of gingivitis.
