Summary: Soft robotic grippers, made of soft materials, can generate motion through elastic deformations. Unlike traditional hard grippers, soft grippers can effectively eliminate shocks caused by hard contact. They are capable of manipulating objects with irregular shapes and different textures and have facilitated the automation of delicate tasks with the help of embedded sensors.

Summary: Currently, there is a lack of specific and in-depth research on Smart Manufacturing Information System (SMIS), with a focus on a part of the production system rather than the top-level design of the overall system, leading to insufficient research on the elements and relationships covered by enterprises in the smart manufacturing process. This paper proposes a general reference architecture for SMIS, reveals the implementation path of SMIS, and provides guidance for a case study of SMIS in the automotive manufacturing industry.

Summary: This paper proposes a framework for rapid product development based on digital twin, which accelerates product development by eliminating physical validation and adopting digital validation. In the framework, the new product is designed in the virtual space according to new requirements and can reference existing digital twins. Then, an ultrahigh-fidelity virtual manufacturing system is built using the digital twin of the manufacturing system and the design scheme of the new product for digital trial manufacturing, obtaining a digital prototype for digital validation. The results of digital validation are used to improve the design scheme and manufacturing processes.

Summary: Digital twin (DT) is a dynamic intelligent system that combines virtual and realistic models with multiple data sources to monitor product operation status and predict product life in smart manufacturing. However, most current DT modeling approaches focus on individual objects and lack modeling approaches for the whole life cycle and multiple objects, hindering the mining and utilization of data from all aspects of products. This paper proposes a part-level DT modeling approach based on PLM/PDM theory, integrating property, process, simulation, and feedback models within a digital thread communication framework.

Summary: The rapid development of IIoT has led to the optimization of smart manufacturing services by utilizing tools and techniques based on pervasive IIoT products. The knowledge as a service model emphasizes the cognitive capability by actively utilizing massive knowledge, with the industrial knowledge graph playing a central role. However, there are challenges in ensuring the quality and availability of the IKG. This paper proposes a practical and systematic approach for continuously evolving the IKG through a crowdsourcing approach, aiming to fill the gap in small scale and continuous enrichment.

Summary: Process uncertainty can have significant impacts on product quality and performance, especially in terms of dimensional measurement uncertainty. Identifying the sources of dimensional uncertainty and effectively communicating them to collaborators and suppliers is crucial in minimizing the negative effects of process uncertainties. The measurement equipment itself is a principal source of dimensional uncertainty. This article presents an activity model and rule types for selecting dimensional metrology equipment, enabling industrial metrologists to capture, exchange, and share equipment selection rules with their collaborators.
