Summary: Peri-implant diseases, including mucositis and peri-implantitis, have varying prevalence rates and risk indicators. Poor oral hygiene, lack of regular maintenance, diabetes, and history of periodontitis are strongly associated with the development of these diseases. However, there is no definitive conclusion about the correlations with other factors like smoking, implant superstructure shape, and keratinized mucosa condition. Further evidence-based studies are needed for predictable implant therapy in the long term.

Summary: This study evaluated the prevalence of mucositis and peri-implantitis around implants inserted in grafted sockets and investigated possible risk factors. The results showed favorable rates of healthy implants in the long term after ridge preservation procedures. Therefore, these procedures do not increase the risk of developing mucositis or peri-implantitis.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence of peri-implant disease in western China and identified potential risk factors. Male gender, implant length < 10mm, poor proximal contact of the prosthesis, tooth brushing once a day, and moderate periodontitis were found to be independent risk factors for peri-implant disease.

Summary: The success rates of dental implants at 5 and 10 years are nearly 90%. The prevalence of peri-implant diseases, such as peri-implantitis and peri-implant mucositis, is significant. Recent studies using new generation sequencing methods have compared the microbiota of healthy and diseased periodontal and peri-implant sites, revealing distinct differences in diversity and composition. Understanding the characteristics of the peri-implant microbiota can optimize therapeutic strategies for peri-implant diseases.

Summary: The microbiome distribution in peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis sites was found to be similar, with significant differences at the genus and phylum levels. Microbial dysbiosis was significantly associated with an increase in marginal bone loss.

Summary: The study demonstrated the efficacy of HYBENX(R) in treating peri-implantitis and suggested that using HYBENX(R) along with open-flap debridement may be an effective technique, although further studies are needed to understand its potential benefits fully.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of various restorative and prosthetic parameters on the health of peri-implant tissues following dental implant placement. Results showed that good crown status was associated with lower PPD values, less plaque accumulation, and reduced bleeding on probing. Gingival color and radiographic findings were also significantly associated with crown status.

Summary: The study suggests that thin gingival phenotype (TnP) and inadequate keratinized mucosa width (KMW <2 mm) may be significant risk indicators for peri-implant disease and pain/discomfort during brushing.

Summary: The review article aims to summarize the current evidence on the potential risk factors and preventive strategies for peri-implant diseases. The associated risk factors can be categorized into patient-specific factors, implant-specific factors, and long-term factors. Early intervention and a comprehensive maintenance program for assessing potential risk factors are the best strategies for preventing peri-implant diseases.

Summary: The aim of this study was to determine the advantages and limitations of laser therapy as an adjuvant in the treatment of peri-implant mucositis. The results showed that laser therapy significantly reduced bleeding on probing and led to a reduction in probing depth, but the difference was not statistically significant.

Summary: Cement-retained restorations on implants offer better passive fit and aesthetics, but excess cement can lead to biological complications such as peri-implant tissue inflammation and periimplantitis. Careful cementation methods and materials can help prevent these cement-related peri-implant diseases.

Summary: This study evaluated the responsiveness of peri-implant mucositis (PIM) to standard anti-infective mechanical treatment (AIMT) at clinical and biomarker levels, and estimated the diagnostic capacity of bone markers as surrogate endpoints and predictors. The results showed that AIMT can reduce the clinical and biological indicators of PIM, but only achieved complete clinical resolution in 30% of cases. Around one third of PIM patients exhibited active bone resorption below clinical detectability, which was not associated with disease progression and poor treatment responsiveness.

Summary: This study assessed the prevalence and risk indicators of peri-implant diseases, and associated specific clinical characteristics with these diseases. In the medium term, peri-implant diseases were correlated with factors inherent to the patient's conditions, presurgical treatment plan, and hygiene maintenance care.

Summary: The systematic review found that inflammatory elements in peri-implantitis (PI) showed significantly increased vascularization and inflammatory cell counts dominated by plasma cells compared with healthy peri-implant tissues (HI). Studies also reported more severe inflammatory infiltrates in PI compared with chronic periodontitis. The meta-analysis results showed a significantly larger surface area of the infiltrated connective tissue in PI.

Summary: Individuals with periodontitis have a higher risk of developing ischemic heart diseases and death in this 17-year follow-up study. The association between periodontitis and incidence of ischemic heart disease was particularly notable in women and older individuals. Additionally, periodontitis was more prevalent among men and was associated with mortality in all individuals, particularly in younger age groups.

Summary: The study aimed to compare self-perceived oral health and orofacial appearance in three different cohorts of 60-year-old individuals. Data from the Swedish National Study of Aging and Care were analyzed, and a cross-sectional design was used. The results showed that the participants reported a low number of self-perceived problems with oral health. However, a higher proportion in the 2014-2015 cohort experienced problems with bleeding gums. Overall, the 60-year-olds irrespective of birth cohort perceived their oral health and orofacial appearance as satisfactory.
