Summary: Bone loss is a characteristic of inflammatory bone diseases caused by aberrantly activated osteoclasts. This study revealed that inflammatory osteoclast-derived exosomes specifically target osteoblasts and promote bone formation through the lncRNA LIOCE, which stabilizes the osteogenic transcription factor Osterix.

Summary: This study investigates the role of mammary gland tissue-resident macrophages (MGTRMs) in the development of TNBC breast tumors and recurrence after surgery and chemotherapy. The findings suggest that MGTRMs are a major TAM resource and play pivotal roles in the growth and malignant progression of TNBC. Depletion of MGTRMs shows potential as a novel anti-cancer approach targeting tissue-resident macrophages.

Summary: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are a family of particles/vesicles found in blood and body fluids, playing important roles in cell communication and regulation of cell processes. Recent years have seen increased interest in the content and function of EVs, but this has also led to confusion in their classification and naming. This review analyzes the evolution of knowledge and definition of EVs over the years.

Summary: Bisphosphonates, as potent anti-resorptive agents, may adversely affect bone healing and normal bone adaption in equine athletes. This study developed a method for detecting bisphosphonates in horse bone and found that they can reside in bone for an extended period of time, increasing the potential for bone fractures in young and athletic horses.

Summary: The study demonstrates that bone-targeted drug delivery nanoparticles are taken up by macrophages in the liver, spleen, lungs, and bone marrow, with mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS)-mediated clearance being a key obstacle to their accumulation at fracture sites. Further development of sophisticated approaches is needed to improve the selectivity of the nanoparticles.

Summary: Cancer has surpassed heart disease as the leading cause of deaths for the age group 45-65, prompting increased research on innovative nano formulations for cancer therapy. Lipid-based carriers, such as liposomes and exosomes, have been extensively studied. Recently, researchers have developed hybrid exosomes by fusing liposomes and exosomes, which may offer advantages such as high drug loading, targeted cellular uptake, and biocompatibility.

Summary: Bone metastasis is a fatal phase of cancer that lacks an ideal treatment strategy. Lipid-based nano-carriers, such as liposomes and solid lipid nanoparticles, show great potential in improving bone targeting for the treatment of bone metastasis. This review summarizes the development, design, applications, challenges, and future perspectives of lipid nano-transporters, as well as discussing their economic suitability and alternatives.

Summary: The rapid developments in plant genome editing using CRISPR/Cas systems have led to a need for more detailed exploration of delivery methods. In addition to traditional plasmids and viral vectors, non-viral vectors are also being used, offering advantages such as lower immune response, flexibility in design, and strong targeting capabilities.
