Summary: This study aimed to explore the effect of adding trimetazidine to other anti-anginal drugs on the functional capacity of ischemic heart disease (IHD) patients not suitable for revascularization. The analysis of six randomized controlled trials showed that trimetazidine can improve walking time and severity of angina in these patients.

Summary: Fabry disease is a lysosomal storage disorder characterized by sphingolipid deposition due to deficiency in a specific enzyme, potentially leading to accelerated atherosclerosis in organs such as the heart, kidneys, and brain. Patients with Fabry disease often have a high prevalence of risk factors for coronary artery disease, which may further contribute to the development of coronary stenosis. Mechanisms such as microvascular dysfunction and arterial wall stress from sphingolipid deposition can also play a role in promoting atherosclerosis in Fabry disease patients.

Summary: In this study, the transcriptomic changes in perennial ryegrass under different nitrogen levels were investigated. The results showed that treatment with half of the standard N concentration led to a better growth state. Analysis of differentially expressed genes identified genes and pathways involved in nitrogen utilization and excessive nitrogen stress. Additionally, transcription factors related to nitrogen utilization and excessive nitrogen stress were also identified. This study provides new insight into the regulatory mechanism of ryegrass in response to nitrogen.

Summary: This retrospective inception cohort study found that exposure to non-selective beta AR antagonists may increase the risk of developing Alzheimer's disease in older adults, while exposure to selective beta 2AR agonists may decrease the risk.

Summary: This study compared the long-term effects of different types of vasodilators on clinical outcomes in patients with vasospastic angina. The results showed that the use of nitrates as a vasodilator increased the risk of acute coronary syndrome during one year of follow-up.

Summary: Single-cell RNA-seq analysis revealed the key molecular mechanisms of atherosclerosis, highlighting the impact of endothelial cells and the pathways of fluid shear stress and AS and TGF-beta. ICAM1, KLF2, and VCAM1 were identified as important genes in endothelial cells, with significantly downregulated expression in atherosclerotic arteries.

Summary: The study revealed that lubabegron fumarate is highly selective for the beta(3)-adrenergic receptor subtype and has minimal agonistic activity at the beta(2)-adrenergic receptor. Differences in mRNA expression levels of beta(1)-, beta(2)-, and beta(3)-AR were observed between subcutaneous and intramuscular adipose tissues. The response to beta-adrenergic ligands, especially agonists for the beta(1)- and beta(3)-receptor subtypes, was found to be lower in intramuscular adipose tissue compared to subcutaneous adipose tissue.

Summary: The study investigated the impact of cardio-selective beta(1)-blocker bisoprolol on the response to salbutamol in patients with asthma. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the bronchodilator response to salbutamol after bronchoconstriction induced by mannitol between bisoprolol treatment and placebo.

Summary: This study identified novel rare-variant genes associated with intraocular pressure (IOP) and glaucoma, demonstrating the importance of including rare variants in gene discovery. Additionally, the study highlighted potential therapeutic targets for glaucoma, with some of the genes already being drug targets for clinical treatment or in clinical trials. The study also showed the significant association of a rare-variant polygenic risk score with glaucoma in independent participants.

Summary: This perspective article summarizes the research on the signalling cascades induced by meningococcus in host cells, revealing the important role of the β(2)-adrenergic receptor as the receptor involved. It also discovered the association between the early adhesion receptor CD147 and the cytoskeletal protein α-actinin 4.
