Summary: The study developed a quantification method using PS-OCT to evaluate the fibrous structure of tendons. A rat model with partial rupture of the Achilles tendon was used, and PS-OCT and histological analysis were performed to assess the structural changes of the injured tendon. The results demonstrated the accuracy of the proposed quantification method in evaluating the fibrous structural status of tendons.

Summary: Quantitative Polarized Light Imaging (QPLI) is a technique used to compute the orientation of collagen fibers. In this paper, a single shot QPLI system (ssQPLI) without moving parts is presented, which can accurately quantify the fiber orientation and quickly provide pixel-wise measurements during mechanical testing. The ssQPLI system utilizes four cameras to simultaneously collect linearly polarized light in four states.

Summary: In this paper, a polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (PS-OCT) based polarization coherency matrix tomography (PCMT) combining polarization coherency matrix with Mueller matrix is proposed for the determination of complete polarization properties of tissue. PCMT measures the Jones matrix of biological sample based on similar transformation, in which four elements have initial random phase from different polarization states based on traditional PS-OCT. The results indicate that PCMT can eliminate the phase difference of incident lights with different polarization states. In addition, the polarization coherency matrix using three polarization states has complete information of the sample Jones matrix. Finally, the 16 elements of the sample Mueller matrix are applied for deriving fully polarized optical properties of the sample based on the elliptical diattenuator and the elliptical retarder. Thus, the method based on the PCM and Mueller matrix has the advantage over the traditional PS-OCT.

Summary: Cross-polarized optical coherence tomography offers improved imaging contrast for birefringent tissue and shows promise for fibrosis and cancer diagnosis. This study presents a simplified system based on polarization-maintaining fiber suitable for endoscopic applications. The system utilizes a polarization-maintaining fiber as a delay line to achieve co- and cross-polarized images, enhancing contrast by visualizing changes in the light's polarization state in tissue.

Summary: The diagnostic use of a singular approach in analyzing polarization properties of histological biopsy sections has proven effective in differentiating between benign and malignant tumors of the uterus and prostate. The azimuthal-invariant express method of Mueller-matrix mapping has shown promising sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy in the differential diagnosis of uterine myoma and adenocarcinoma, as well as adenocarcinoma of the prostate with varying degrees of differentiation.

Summary: Mueller matrix polarimetry is an important tool for studying the polarization properties of biological tissues, and can extract the polarization parameters of samples from the M matrix. A comparison between the MMPD and MMT methods in the regime of 3 x 3 M shows that there is a good correlation between the two decomposition methods.

Summary: The polarization-based optical interference approach is expanded for differentiating prostate adenocarcinoma with varying grades and Gleason scores. This approach evaluates the local contrast of polarized interference patterns to determine the morphology of the biological tissue. By analyzing polarization patterns of histological sections, the developed approach accurately assesses the differentiation levels of prostate tumor tissues.
