Specifically, oleic acid (OA) and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) were identified as potential risk factors for depression, while adrenic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) were found to be protective. These findings emphasize the importance of further research to investigate the underlying mechanisms that mediate the association between these fatty acids and depression risk.

Summary: This study examined the effect of supplementation with ethyl esters of linseed oil on the fatty acid profile in blood serum, erythrocyte membranes, and hair sebum of healthy beagle dogs. The results showed that the supplementation decreased the content of saturated fatty acids and increased the level of beneficial unsaturated fatty acids, especially those from the omega-3 family.

Summary: Marine organisms are valuable sources of long-chain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are increasingly in demand for their health benefits. Seaweeds have a low lipid content, but their high PUFA fraction and low omega-6:omega-3 ratio make them an alternative source. Concentrated lipid extracts provide a practical method without significantly changing dietary habits. The extraction technology plays a key role in the production of seaweed extracts, and the choice of solvent and operational conditions can also extract other lipophilic components, resulting in a final product with interesting biological properties. Utilizing the remaining algal solids as a source of additional nutritional and bioactive compounds is essential for achieving a sustainable process.

The protective mechanism of DHA oxylipins is mediated via activation of protein kinase A, supporting their use as therapeutic intervention in atherothrombotic diseases.
