Summary: The study evaluated the virtual feasibility of stock prostheses in TMJA patients, finding that shorter ramus length is a limiting factor in using stock prostheses. Ramus length was positively correlated with the age of occurrence of ankylosis, with longer ramus lengths associated with decreased length discrepancy, angulation of mandibular component, and mediolateral fit discrepancy. Only a small proportion of joints had appropriate fit of stock prostheses, highlighting the need for smaller size stock prostheses in TMJA patients.

Summary: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disabling disease with significant morbidity worldwide. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), such as exosomes and microvesicles, play an essential role in the progression and treatment of OA, regulating tissue homeostasis and cell-to-cell communication. Synovial fluid and synovium-derived EVs have been identified as potential biomarkers for OA, and mesenchymal stem cell-derived EVs have shown therapeutic effects. However, the different functions of EVs in knee joint and temporomandibular joint (TMJ) are not well understood.

Summary: Aging is a major risk factor for joint disorders, and TMJ degeneration in older age can significantly impact quality of life without effective treatment options. This study demonstrates that pharmaceutical intervention targeting cellular senescence can alleviate age-related TMJ degeneration, suggesting potential for future clinical trials with senolytics proven to be relatively safe in human studies.

Summary: Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis can be effectively managed through autogenous grafts or alloplastic TMJ prostheses. Custom alloplastic TMJ prostheses are emerging as a preferred treatment modality. The presented case demonstrates the successful reconstruction of TMJ and restoration of oral function using a custom alloplastic TMJ prosthesis.

Summary: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) is a common musculoskeletal condition that causes pain and disability. The most common cause is internal derangement, but other pathologies can mimic it. MRI is the preferred imaging modality for evaluating the TMJ, and radiologists need to be familiar with its normal anatomy and function, as well as the imaging features of various pathologies.

Summary: The study found that the majority of TMJ joints previously reconstructed with patient-specific prostheses could be successfully adapted to stock prostheses. However, joints with a large gap during arthroplasty and those with a history of open surgery or concurrent orthognathic surgery had lower success rates with stock prostheses.

Summary: This study found that in patients with temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis, undergoing TMJ reconstruction with total joint prostheses combined with mandibular advancement (MA) can significantly improve the upper airway. Patients without MA only experienced an increase in the dimension of the palatopharynx after surgery.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the performance of different materials and condyle designs for alloplastic temporomandibular joint total joint replacement (TMJ TJR) in terms of friction coefficient, wear volume, surface damage, and contacting stresses. Reciprocating sliding pin-on-plate wear tests were conducted for spherical and anatomical condyle specimens made of CoCrMo or Ti6Al4V alloys against ultra-highly molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) square specimens. The results showed that the anatomical TMJ TJR condyle design had lower von Mises stresses and wear volume compared to the standard design, indicating improved mechanical integrity over cyclic loading. However, wear testing revealed plastic deformation and degradation of the UHMWPE material.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the variability of arteries in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ). A 3D volume rendering CT angiography was used to study the vasculature variability in random patients from two hospitals. The results showed higher arterial density in the posterior aspect of the ascending ramus of the mandible, with a strong correlation between the number of vessels and the variability of the region.

Summary: The study evaluated the predictive ability of preoperative mpMRI and Ga-68-PSMA PET/CT scan on pathological outcomes, identifying men with <5% risk of LNM; Ga-68-PSMA PET/CT was more sensitive in LNM detection, and men with negative results had lower risk compared to traditional calculators.

Summary: This study found that mpMRI underestimates tumor grade and volume, although high-grade cancer is rare. Histopathological analysis of totally embedded normal mpMRI lobes helps reveal the multifocality of prostate cancer. These results suggest the practical utility of systematic biopsy in addition to targeted biopsies when making clinical decisions on prostate cancer management.
