Summary: The study found that both hair arsenic concentrations and arsenicosis prevalence were significantly higher in the cognitive-impaired group compared to the cognitive-normal group. Furthermore, the distance from the Realgar Plant was positively correlated with MMSE scores and negatively correlated with the prevalence of cognitive impairment. Hair arsenic concentrations were negatively correlated with MMSE scores.

Summary: Arsenic is naturally occurring but can also contaminate groundwater due to mining, agricultural, and industrial processes. Human exposure to arsenic from contaminated water can lead to acute toxicity and chronic effects, including skin lesions and cancer. Strategies to diminish arsenic in water include physicochemical treatment systems, bioremediation using cyanobacteria and algae, and nanotechnology applications.

Summary: This study found that cardiovascular diseases are associated with a decrease in lifespan and cognitive impairment-free life expectancy, with stroke patients having the shortest lifespan and cognitive impairment-free life expectancy. Analysis of multiple cardiovascular risk factors revealed that each additional cardiovascular condition was exponentially linked to a decrease in lifespan and cognitive impairment-free life expectancy.

Summary: Arsenic, a carcinogen, is found in high levels in groundwater and cultivated rice, particularly in high-yielding varieties. The population studied in this research is exposed to extremely severe cancer and noncancer risks due to co-exposure to arsenic through drinking water and rice consumption.

Summary: Traditional laboratory and instrument-based techniques for detecting arsenic (III) contamination in drinking water are expensive and complex. Therefore, research on colorimetric detection technology based on metal nanoparticles is an important direction for developing simple and cost-effective arsenic (III) detectors.

Summary: Stroke-related cognitive impairment has significant impacts on patients, caregivers, and society, highlighting the importance of effective management and prevention strategies. Currently, there are inconsistencies in definitions, prevalence rates, predictors, and prevention strategies for post-stroke cognitive impairment, indicating the need for further research in this area.

Summary: Knowledge about preventable hospital readmissions is limited. This study found that preventable readmissions can occur in any department of the hospital, and there is no single type of patient easily identified at risk for preventable readmissions, likely due to the multifactorial nature of the phenomenon.

Summary: Cognitive impairment is common after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. This study explores the associations between post-hospital discharge risk factors and cognitive trajectories in COVID-19 patients. The study found three groups of cognitive trajectories, with older age, female sex, previous dementia diagnosis or memory complaints, frailty before hospitalization, higher platelet count, and delirium as predictors of cognitive decline.

Summary: This study found a high prevalence of cognitive impairment in hemodialysis patients, which is influenced by depression and education level. Impairment mainly affected immediate memory recall, with naming ability showing the best performance. No significant changes were observed in any domain after 1-year follow-up.

Summary: This study assesses experts' beliefs on important predictors of developing dementia in persons with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Age, CSF analysis, FDG-PET findings, hippocampal atrophy, MoCA (or MMSE) score, parkinsonism, apathy, psychosis, informant report of cognitive symptoms, and global atrophy were identified as the ten most important predictors.

Summary: WMHs are imaging markers of cerebral small-vessel disease closely associated with cognitive impairment, but their heterogeneous nature makes early detection and diagnosis challenging. Limited understanding of the underlying pathological processes and biomarkers of WMHs in cognitive impairment has led to slow progress in prevention and treatment.

Summary: This study conducted an umbrella review to evaluate the strength and validity of the associations between modifiable factors and dementia and cognitive impairment. The results identified several modifiable risk factors, including early-life education, plasma glucose, BMI, atrial fibrillation, benzodiazepine use, and gait speed, that have convincing evidence of association. The study also found suggestive to highly suggestive evidence for other factors such as blood pressure, homocysteine, diet, and physical activity. Mendelian randomization studies provided further evidence for the causal relationships of education and plasma glucose with Alzheimer's disease.

Summary: The European Food Safety Authority's downward revision of the Health-based Guidance Value for bisphenol A (BPA) has led to disagreements with other regulatory agencies, particularly the German Federal Institute for Risk Assessment. The differing views between EFSA and BfR are driven by their respective selection of endpoints and study evaluation systems, as well as their acceptance or refusal of immunotoxic effects as a basis for establishing a Health-based Guidance Value.

Summary: The aim of this study was to assess the exposure of e-waste workers to phthalates and alternative plasticizers. The results showed that e-waste workers had higher urinary concentrations of phthalates and metabolites compared to non-occupationally exposed controls. However, no significant differences were found between pre-and post-shift concentrations in the e-waste workers.
