Summary: Glaucoma, a group of neurodegenerative diseases, is the second leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. The limited penetration of drugs through the ocular barrier reduces the systemic bioavailability, leading to the need for frequent drug administration and potential toxic effects. Liposomes and other novel drug-delivery systems can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of antiglaucomatous drugs by improving drug penetration, bioavailability, sustained release, tissue targeting, and reduction in intraocular pressure.

Summary: Subconjunctival administration of nanocarriers can enhance drug bioavailability in specific parts of the eye by overcoming blood-ocular barriers. Different characteristics of liposomes (charge, size, cholesterol content, and lipid saturation) influence their distribution in ocular and corporeal tissues. Optimizing liposome design is necessary to control the temporal and spatial bioavailability and clearance of nanocarriers from the eye, improving the efficacy and safety of ocular therapeutics.

Summary: The severe course of COVID-19 can lead to long-term pulmonary diseases, and developing new effective drug formulations, including inhalation administration, is crucial. This study proposes a method for creating lipid-polymer delivery systems using liposomes decorated with mucoadhesive mannosylated chitosan for fluoroquinolones and pirfenidone. The interactions between drugs and liposomes of different compositions are studied, and the role of the polymer shell in stabilizing vesicles and delaying the drug release is demonstrated. Results show prolonged accumulation of moxifloxacin in lung tissues after a single endotracheal administration in mice.

Summary: This study successfully prepared graphene oxide (GO) and demonstrated that the adsorption process of diclofenac potassium (DCFP) by GO could be better described by the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model. The synthesized XG-g-PAA/GO composite hydrogel showed a certain mechanical strength and uniform color, and exhibited pH sensitivity in drug release experiments. Additionally, the XG-g-PAA/GO-DCFP composite hydrogel effectively prolonged the drug action time and greatly enhanced the bioavailability of DCFP in in vivo pharmacokinetic analysis.

Summary: Crosslinking affects the mechanical behavior and tissue metabolism of collagen-based tissues. Aging and diabetes alter the crosslinking type and density, thus changing tissue properties. High-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking and advanced-glycation end-products result in uniform deformation under daily activity, while low-connectivity enzymatic crosslinking does not. High-connectivity model displays more sliding, while AGEs induce instability in structures near the binding sites.
