Summary: This study assessed the risks of pregnancy complications in women with pregestational diabetes mellitus (preDM) or gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) based on birth data in Germany. The results showed that GDM and preDM were associated with higher risks of premature birth, elevated birth weight, cesarean section, and transfer of the newborn to the perinatal unit. PreDM also increased the risk of stillbirth, while GDM was associated with a lower risk. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous monitoring and care-relevant aspects in pregnant women with diabetes.

Summary: Gestational glucose intolerance (GGI), an abnormal initial gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) screening test without a GDM diagnosis, is associated with an increased risk of future diabetes. Individuals with GGI have a higher risk of developing diabetes compared to those with normal glucose tolerance during pregnancy. Routine clinical data can be used to identify this unrecognized group who may benefit from enhanced diabetes screening and prevention.

Summary: This study compared the effects of different glycemic criteria for the diagnosis and treatment of gestational diabetes on women and infants. The results showed that using lower glycemic criteria did not reduce the risk of macrosomia, and it led to more labor inductions, use of health services, pharmacologic agents, and neonatal hypoglycemia. For women with glucose test results between the lower and higher criteria, those who received treatment had better maternal and infant health outcomes.

Summary: This study compared trends in pregestational and gestational diabetes in rural and urban areas in the USA and found that pregnant women in rural areas face unique challenges that contribute to disparities in adverse pregnancy outcomes. The frequency of diabetes increased in both rural and urban areas from 2011 to 2019, with rural areas having a higher risk. These findings have implications for delivering equitable diabetes care in pregnancy in rural US communities.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the biochemical correlation of hemoglobin (Hb), dyslipidemia, and HbA1c with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The results showed that increased levels of HbA1c, TC, and LDL, along with decreased levels of HDL and Hb, were identified as contributing factors to GDM. Monitoring and managing these biochemical parameters during pregnancy may be important in identifying and potentially preventing or managing GDM.
