cis- and trans-1,2-chdcaH(2), 1,3-chdcaH(2), and 1,4-chdcaH(2) (chdcaH(2) = cyclohexanedicarboxylic acid) as well as cis,cis-1,3,5-chtcaH(3) (chtcaH(3) = cyclohexanetricarboxylic acid) have been treated with dimethyl- and di-n-butyltin reagents, and for the case of 1,4-chdcaH(2) additionally with di-tert-butyltin dichloride, to determine whether macrocyclic or polymeric diorganotin dicarboxylates are formed dependent of the spatial orientation of the coordinating ligand functions and the organic substituents at the metal atom and to analyze conformational and topological variations in the resulting supramolecular aggregates. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies showed that besides the ligand geometry the substituents at the metal center are key elements for the formation of either monomeric, cyclo-oligomeric, or polymeric assemblies. Two of the compounds characterized by X-ray diffraction analysis exhibited macrocyclic ring structures, [{Me2Sn(cis-e,a-1,4-chdca)}(2)] and [{nBu(2)Sn(cis-e,a-1,4-chdca)}(4)]. For most of the remaining compounds, one-dimensional polymeric solid-state structures of composition [{R2Sn(1,x-chdca)(H2O)(y)}(n)] (R = Me, nBu, Bu-t; x = 2, 3, 4; y = 0, 1) were observed, which had varying topologies, and for the case of the Me2Sn and nBu2Sn derivatives were further linked to two- or three-dimensional supramolecular architectures, either through intermolecular Sn center dot center dot center dot O or O-H center dot center dot center dot O hydrogen-bonding interactions.

Synthesis and photophysical properties of tricyclic boron compounds. Experimental and theoretical study

Ariana Leon-Negrete, Rodrigo Morales-Cueto, Marisol Guizado-Rodriguez, Mario Rodriguez, Arturo Gonzalez-Hernandez, Victor Barba

Summary: The one-pot reaction synthesized tricyclic boronate species with a pi delocalized structural skeleton, showing photophysical properties and colorimetric properties in different solvents. Substitution of hydrogen atom by chlorine atom in chlorophenol derivative compounds stabilized HOMO and LUMO levels, resulting in decreased transition energy values. Compounds with extended pi conjugation, such as pyrene and anthracene derivatives, exhibited smaller band gap energy compared to phenyl derivatives.

Tailoring Chlorthalidone Aqueous Solubility by Cocrystallization: Stability and Dissolution Behavior of a Novel Chlorthalidone-Caffeine Cocrystal

Christian Rodriguez-Ruiz, Pedro Montes-Tolentino, Jorge Guillermo Dominguez-Chavez, Hugo Morales-Rojas, Herbert Hopfl, Dea Herrera-Ruiz

Summary: A cocrystal of the antihypertensive drug chlorthalidone and caffeine was synthesized, which showed improved solubility and dissolution behavior compared to chlorthalidone alone. The stability and dissolution properties of the cocrystal make it a promising candidate for the development of solid dosage forms with lower drug doses and fewer adverse effects.

Concepcion Avila-Montiel, Hugo Tlahuext, Armando Ariza, Carolina Godoy-Alcantar, Antonio R. Tapia-Benavides, Dra. Margarita Tlahuextl

Summary: We reported the synthesis of eight indium coordination compounds derived from amino amides 1-8 and InCl3. Crystallographic and NMR studies revealed the unusual chelation coordination of the metal ion to the amine and carbonyl groups of the ligands. The presence of formation-breaking and interchange equilibria were evidenced by vibrational, Raman, and UV spectroscopy studies, indicating the potential biological interchange of In3+ using these coordination compounds.

Summary: Nine heterocyclic zwitterionic boronate esters derived from carbonylphenylboronic acids and aminodiols were synthesized and characterized using various spectroscopic techniques. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that the boronates were contained in six-membered heterocycles with a chair conformation. The study also discovered channels in the crystal lattice that were filled with water and supported by hydrogen bonding interactions.

Dual-emissive waste oil based S-doped carbon dots for acetone detection and Cr(VI) detection/reduction/removal

Miriam Rangel, Sarvagya Saluja, V. Barba, J. S. Perez-Huerta, V. Agarwal

Summary: Dual-emissive water-dispersible sulfur-doped carbon dots (S-CDs) were synthesized from canola oil and exhibited wavelength-dependent and independent emissions. These S-CDs showed selectivity and linear turn-off fluorescence in the presence of Cr(VI) and acetone, making them potential nanosensors. The emission spectrum of S-CDs red-shifted in the presence of acetone, with a concentration-dependent response. The nanoparticles were also effective in reducing Cr(VI) to Cr(III) and could be incorporated into a polymer matrix for water decontamination.
