Summary: Real-world evidence (RWE) plays an increasingly important role in public health and healthcare decisions globally. An Integrated Dataset has been created, combining primary care electronic medical records with pharmacy and medical claims data for over 123 million US patients since 2014. This study describes the components of the Integrated Dataset and evaluates its representativeness to the US population, as well as its potential for evaluating influenza vaccine effectiveness.

Summary: This study developed a hybrid model based on Gradient Boosting Decision Tree and Gated Recurrent Unit (GBDT-GRU) to predict accurate estimated date of delivery (EDD) by analyzing time-series predictors. The results showed that the GBDT-GRU model outperformed other prediction methods and could assist in the development of clinical delivery treatment guidelines.

Summary: Medical distrust is a persistent barrier to medical care, affecting preventative screening, treatment uptake, and treatment adherence. This study assesses the prevalence of medical distrust in a genomic medicine research sample and identifies demographic, access-related, and health-status characteristics that predict medical distrust. The results show that the prevalence of medical distrust is 32%. Predictors of medical distrust include race/ethnicity, gender identity, education level, income level, access to healthcare, and mental health composite scores.

Summary: Establishing a network infrastructure for clinical research between Osaka University Hospital and affiliated hospitals in Osaka, as well as introducing a clinical data collection system, solved the integration issue of electronic medical records and clinical data. This network infrastructure can also serve as a medical image collection system, and a total of 28 clinical studies have been conducted using this system since 2013.

Summary: This retrospective study aimed to compare the risk of readmission in patients with peripartum hypertension who received no treatment, labetalol, nifedipine, or both at hospital discharge. The study found that nifedipine monotherapy and combined nifedipine-labetalol treatment significantly reduced the risk of readmission for hypertensive complications. In contrast, labetalol monotherapy was associated with an increased risk of readmission.

Summary: In this study, the prevalence and determinants of risk factors for non-noncommunicable diseases, such as smoking, overweight/obesity, and hypertension, among reproductive-age women in Bangladesh were investigated. Factors such as age, education, wealth index, and geographic location were found to be associated with these risk factors. The findings emphasize the importance of targeted public health interventions to promote physical activity and reduce tobacco use, particularly in the coastal region.

Summary: There is a strong association between chronic hypertension and the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in mothers, especially those with adverse pregnancy outcomes (APOs). This risk can lead to premature CVD, thus intervention programs targeting these high-risk groups might reduce their risk of subsequent CVD.

Summary: The study aimed to quantify the prevalence of maternal hypertensive disorder of pregnancy (HDP) in late preterm and term infants admitted to neonatal units (NNU) and assess opportunities to avoid admissions. The results showed that 11.8% of late preterm infants and 5.2% of term infants were exposed to maternal HDP. The main reasons for admission were respiratory disease, prematurity, and hypoglycemia. Further research should investigate whether the choice of antihypertensive agents or postnatal pathways can reduce NNU admissions.

Summary: This study investigated the adverse effects of chronic hypertension during pregnancy and the effectiveness of antihypertensive treatment. The results showed that women with chronic hypertension had a higher risk of developing preeclampsia, preterm birth, and fetal growth restriction. Women with chronic hypertension who were treated with antihypertensive medications still had a higher risk of these adverse outcomes compared to untreated women. Among women receiving treatment, methyldopa may have better pregnancy outcomes than beta-blockers.

Summary: The loss of skeletal muscle function, strength, and mass is common in older adults, and it has significant socioeconomic impact. Subclinical hypothyroidism, which is prevalent in older adults, has been associated with reduced muscle strength. However, there hasn't been a randomized placebo-controlled trial to investigate the effect of treating subclinical hypothyroidism on muscle function and mass.

Summary: In this study, the concentration of the antioxidant nutraceutical ergothioneine in the plasma of 432 first time mothers was analyzed. Results showed a weak association between ergothioneine levels and maternal age, but not with BMI. Out of these 432 women, 97 developed pre-term or term pre-eclampsia. A threshold at the 90th percentile of the reference range in the control population was set, and it was found that only 1% of the women with ergothioneine levels above this threshold developed pre-eclampsia, suggesting a potential protective effect.
