Summary: There were no significant differences in serum levels of ALDH2- and ADH1B-related miRNAs between Austrian and Japanese middle-aged men. However, miR-150-3p and miR-4314 showed higher expression levels in Austrian men compared to Japanese men, indicating they may play a role in the ethnic difference in sensitivity to alcohol through modifying the expression of ADH1B.

Summary: Excessive alcohol consumption can lead to multi-systemic diseases, with alcoholic liver disease being the most common and severe one. Electrolytic hydrogen water (EHW) has been shown to inhibit ethanol-induced hepatocellular damage by regulating the metabolism of ethanol and acetaldehyde in liver cells. This suggests that EHW may be beneficial in the prevention of alcoholic liver disease.

Summary: This study found that histone deacetylase inhibitor valproic acid (VPA) can alter glucose metabolism in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells and is correlated with cisplatin sensitivity. Overexpression of ALDH may be one mechanism of cellular resistance to VPA, and its inhibition can enhance the therapeutic efficacy of VPA-chemotherapeutic drug combinations.

Summary: This study found that titanium peroxide nanoparticles combined with radiation have anti-cancer effects on radioresistant pancreatic cancer stem cells (CSCs). They can inhibit the proliferation and invasion abilities of CSCs, and suppress the growth of pancreatic tumors by generating reactive oxygen species (ROS). These findings suggest that the combination of TiOxNPs and radiation may be an effective therapeutic strategy for pancreatic CSCs.

Summary: This study reveals that TIGD5 may function as a tumor suppressor in ovarian cancer (OC) rather than an oncogene. Patients with elevated TIGD5 mRNA expression have poor prognosis in OC, but overexpression of TIGD5 in OC cell lines unexpectedly inhibits cell growth and invasiveness. These findings highlight the potential important role of TIGD5 in the development of OC.

Osteosarcoma showed significantly worse overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) compared to other sarcomas in the pelvis and retroperitoneum. Larger primary tumor size was the only poor prognostic factor associated with local control (LC).

Summary: This retrospective study investigated the efficacy of change in the automated bone scan index (aBSI) as an imaging biomarker for treatment response and survival prediction in mCRPC patients treated with Ra-223. The study analyzed data from 205 Japanese mCRPC patients who received Ra-223 treatment between July 2016 and August 2020. The results showed that changes in aBSI, alkaline phosphatase (ALP), and prostate-specific antigen (PSA) were significant prognostic factors for overall survival in these patients.
