Summary: Regenerative medicine and tissue engineering have great potential in addressing the limitations of traditional medical approaches. Chitosan, as a naturally derived biocompatible biomaterial, has played a significant role in tissue regeneration. It has unique properties and can be applied in various fields, such as agriculture, nutraceuticals, biomedicine, and food. Chitosan is also an important material for developing next-generation hydrogels and bio-scaffolds. Furthermore, chitosan can be easily modified to enhance its mechanical strength, biodegradability, and controlled release of bioactive molecules. Blending chitosan with other polymers or incorporating nanoparticles expands its possibilities in tissue engineering applications.

Summary: Regenerative medicine aims to restore tissue and organ function, but faces barriers such as the lack of proregenerative biomaterials, a complex regulatory process, and user adoption challenges. Biodegradable polymers, although important in regenerative medicine, have limitations in their mechanical and degradation properties. Despite these limitations, a small number of biodegradable polymers have dominated the market for the past 50 years.

Summary: Sarcoma subtype classification is currently based on histopathological morphology, but molecular analyses are becoming an important addition to sarcoma diagnostics and treatment. Molecular markers can support diagnostic workup, suggest differential diagnoses, and identify therapeutic targets. However, the use of molecular markers in sarcoma prognosis is still limited. Understanding the limitations and context of sequencing technologies is crucial for accurate interpretation of genetic findings in sarcoma diagnostics. The increasing availability of massive-parallel sequencing is expected to be utilized more in sarcoma treatment centers in the future.

Summary: Immortalized cells are increasingly used in practical medicine due to their advantages, such as the ability to produce larger amounts of cells and use them for longer periods of time. However, they also have drawbacks, like the possibility of malignant transformation or major phenotype change. This review discusses ways to overcome these barriers and highlights specific fields of application where these concerns are minimal.

Summary: Tissue engineering has become a viable medical alternative in response to the increasing lifespan of society. This review focuses on gelatin, a widely used biomaterial in tissue engineering, and discusses ongoing concerns and the latest developments in this field. Advancements in technology, such as 3D bioprinting and gelatin functionalization, have allowed for better replication of native tissue in gelatin-based systems. This breakthrough has implications for both the manufacturing process, making it more practical and cost-effective, and the future use of gelatin in disease detection and diagnosis rather than treatment.

Summary: This study critically evaluates the use of polypropylene (PP) pelvic mesh in the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse (POP), and proposes the use of advanced materials as an alternative to PP mesh. Results show that the physical properties of PP mesh, including its viscoelastic properties and lack of tissue integration, contribute to complications. The banning of PP mesh in multiple countries highlights the need for the development of alternative pelvic mesh materials.

Summary: The study successfully produced hydrogel microparticles with different morphologies and compositions by combining experimental and computational methods, incorporating drug-doped Hydroxyapatite in their inner matrix. The use of a microfluidic system to obtain crosslinked HMPs with homogeneous sizes and morphologies, as well as the adsorption kinetics and desorption profiles of the chosen drug models, were key aspects of the research. The development of these hydrogel microparticles with improved functionalities is crucial for innovative and sustainable solutions in regenerative medicine.

Summary: This review highlights the importance of the immune response to biomaterials and discusses challenges and opportunities in the development and standardized assessment of the immune response to biomaterials, including the importance of endotoxin levels. It also explores the properties of biomaterials that impact the host immune response and the use of immunomodulatory biomaterials in regenerative medicine. Finally, a standardized in vitro pathway for evaluating the immune response to biomaterials (hydrogels) and their regenerative potential is proposed to ensure safety, consistency, and reduce costs and animal use.
